Quake shareware is the same as the demo (there actually was no demo). You can grab it from here: ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quake/ (quake106.zip is the one you want).
Speaking of Quake Disks... I have looked into making a Live CD dedicated Quake one. Or a bootable USB ISO.
I've used BART PE and number of different environments to try to get it going. What a pain!
If it ever became a reality... I would love to see the computer utilized itself to maximize the efficiency of the game without background processes such as A/V and system updates.
It could even go as far as a linux install where it makes a small partition for swap space (or everything contained in a RAM drive).
I'm talking about the concept of a "Quake Live CD" like a Live CD you might get from a Linux distribution... A slimmed down OS that has only the components to run the game and hardware needed to play the game.
I registered on these forums just because I stumbled upon this post and I lost my shareware disk a good ten years ago and I miss it! If you really do have a copy I am very interested. I have a legacy computer set up just for old games such as this.

I have the SHAREWARE version on the ComputerPlayer CD, (October 1996 issue)
Quake v1.01, it just installs the shareware version into c:/quake
