  • No Sound in Proquake Linux (Ubuntu 9.04)

So I tried messing w/ my sound (attempted to switch from ALSA to OSS, and then back) and now I cannot get sound to work. Before my messing around, I had to run "audiodev=dmix ./glquake_glx" for sound. Now it doesn't work.

I've read the numerous threads and cannot get those things to work for me. Please help, because I've wasted a good 3 hours for no reason!

You might try FitzQuake SDL, TyrQuake, DarkPlaces or even EZQuake (Quakeworld) for Linux. DarkPlaces and FitzQuake SDL are known for working well with sound in Linux, in particular. They use SDL for sound. ProQuake Linux doesn't ... at least it doesn't currently, maybe sometime in the future ...

    Fitzquake SDL Port
    Engine - Disenchant.net
    LordHavoc's DarkPlaces Quake Modification
ezQuake — QuakeWorld client with lots of modern gaming features
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Thanks for the reply. I want to use Proquake. I was able to get sound to work by prefixing with "audiodev=dmix ./glquake_glx" . Now it doesn't give sound and gives an error during "Sound Initializaiton"

      /dev/dsp: Input/output error
      Could not mmap /dev/dsp

        1. Quake was working with sound
        2. You messed with something in operating system, now sound is broke

I'm not sure there is a Quake question to be had here. If your sound isn't working in Ubuntu, then how is doing anything with Quake going to make the sound work?

Just asking ... maybe I am missing something obvious ...
