  • Music issue

    I've been having my own problem with the Quake music. It will just play through once and then just stops instead of looping back to the beginning. I've had this problem since installing Windows 7 (64-bit BTW). I was wondering if anyone else here has had this experience as well and perhaps a solution.

    I don't have an answer but that is certainly weird, but somehow not surprising.

      Um has anyone else here had this problem at all? Interestingly I don't have when I run the original Quake executable under Dosbox.

          Open the drive, then close the drive, make it read it again? possibly???

            Windows versions of Quake use MCI for CD playback, whereas DOS Quake uses hardware interrupts. Totally different APIs, and I can only guess that there's something "wrong" with MCI on 64-bit Windows.

                What files? How?

                  I'm sorry I misunderstood your question. The executable I'm using is glquake and I am playing the music from the CD.

                    I was searching for a solution to this problem and figured I'd drop in and say that I have it too. It affects Quake, Quake II, and Hexen II out of the games I have. 64-bit or 32-bit Win7 doesn't matter, I've run both, and it also affects Vista. I thought maybe it was a problem with my drive itself, so I mounted the CD with Daemon Tools instead, and that has the same problem. The only way to get music after the track plays once is to use the cd stop and cd play x commands in the console.

                      Excuse me if this is off topic but,
                      how can I make Quake (Joequake) run ingame music off my HD instead of always having to leave in my CD?

                          No, I mean Quake reads the from the HD.
                          I remember someone saying to put the music tracks from the disc into Quake/ID1/music or Quake/cd/music something like that?

                            Joequake does not support that.

                              Current options:

                              DirectQ or ProQuake as .mp3 --> quake\id1\music\track00.mp3, track01.mp3, etc.
                              DarkPlaces as .ogg --> quake\id1\sound\cdtracks\track00.ogg, track01.ogg, etc.

                              Or do what JPL said. Or use Alcohol 120 and do your CD virtually (if you can make Quake read that).
