  • Setting up and running Dark Places with The Quake Revitalization Project

Alright, so I installed Dark Places with ease... It runs beautifully, by the way. I wish I discovered it sooner.

However, I am having issues installing the high resolution packages in it.

    http://facelift.quakedev.com/downloa....12.09-BETA.7z

For the world maps, I put QRP-NormalMaps_20.12.09-BETA.pk3 in the ID1 folder like the ReadMe said, but nothing happened.

Same thing for the high res model skins:
    http://facelift.quakedev.com/downloa...es-4-23-05.zip

    The readme says this
"DarkPlaces: extract the files to quake\id1\textures\progs &&& you must rename the files to model.mdl_0.tga (so for example, armor_0.tga would need to be renamed to armor.mdl_0.tga ... the .mdl must be)
    "
I'm not quite sure I understand how I am supposed to rename each and every file, as some of the files are not named after their model. (ie. "+0_med25s.tga"... How would I go about renaming that?)

Could someone please tell me or take a screenshot of exactly what all these files are supposed to look like? I'm dying to play Quake with these beautiful updates.

Also, are there any more packages like these I should know about that would enhance Quake?

    Thank you.
    Any help is much appreciated.

    1) The stuff hiding at this URL

    2) Obviously, Quake Reforged

    3) Rygel's Texture Pack

    Those are 3 other sources.

For map textures, you do not need to rename anything and you just unzip them into quake\id1\textures folder. Same is true for health and ammo boxes.

Your normal maps should work out of the box if you did it right, but you may need to turn something on in DarkPlaces. I attempted to download the normal maps file but it's 200 MB and it says 2 hours for my internet to download it so ...

The rename it is talking about is when they are model textures for monsters and weapons and such. This should not apply to any zip with only map textures.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong with the world textures, because I did exactly what you said and it doesn't work.

And I'm not quite sure I understand what to do with the model skins.

You don't mention anywhere that you installed the diffuse texture pack from QRP which you need if you are going to use the normalmap beta pack!

        Diffuse textures: qrp-maptextures-2007-10-06r2-7files.zip

As a side note I like to mention that we (the QRP Team) have easier install packages, e.g., for Darkplaces, on are to-do list. (Yea QRP is still alive!)

First of all, let me just say I think it's incredible the work you guys are doing!
Your post solved the world texture issue, but I'm still lost as to how I'm supposed to properly install the model skins. (The correct filenames, etc.)
