  • Mission Pack HUDs won't display correctly

I have Scourge of Armagon's pak file nicely tucked into my ID1 folder, but when I run it, the HUD is that of the original Quake (no slots for Armagon's new weapons and power-ups, for instance). What other files do I need to get the HUD to display correctly?

I'm also encountering a glitch that crashes my game when I enter a particular room with lightning arcing everywhere in the first episode. Help is greatly appreciated.

The Scourge of Armagon pak file must be in the SoA folder (or how you name it). For example:

    Normal Quake: Quake\ID1
    SoA: Quake\SoA

Then select in DP (Options/Browse Mods) your SoA directory (before starting a game). Then it should work nicely.

Still not working, but I did find something when poking around in my ID1 folder: a folder labelled "glquake", and some of its files include "empathy.ms2", "v_hammer.ms2", etc. I assume these came with my download of shareware Quake. Does this folder need to be elsewhere?

glquake is an old open GL port of the original quake engine. If you use Dark Places theres no need for it.

          Well, I made it through the arcing lighting room, so I guess that was either a glitch with GLQuake or a result of the pak being in the ID1 folder. Still no HUD though. ;.;

May I give you a hand for this one:

To get the correct HUD available for the mission packs, you must use a shortcut (not the "browse mods" method).

            1.) To start MP1:
create a shortcut and start it: darkplaces.exe -hipnotic
            2.) To start MP2:
create a shortcut and start it: darkplaces.exe -rogue

If you have the original disks (which I hope), the corresponding folders are created automatically in your main Quake directory !

            Kind Regards,
            Seven

So that's why I was having a messed up Hud lol. I was figuring it was just a bug like the Plasmagun. I was running them via:
              -game rogue
              -game hipnotic

instead of just -rogue or -hipnotic

Do what Seven said and they work perfectly

Oh, goody. I found another glitch: in the Storage Facility, the water surface vibrates for no reason. It's nitpicking, sure, but it gets on my nerves.

I'm afraid I'm not quite sure how to do this, and I don't have the original discs.

                    Rightclick the darkplaces.exe
                    Choose Create Shortcut
Now the "Shortcut to darkplaces.exe" rename to as you wish
Now right click it and choose properties
                    on mine it's: C:\Quake\darkplaces.exe
                    Should be similar to yours.

In my case I would make it:
                    C:\Quake\darkplaces.exe -hipnotic
                    or
                    C:\Quake\darkplaces.exe -rogue
