Problem with running (playing) Hexen 2 maps in Quake, or running Quake maps in Hexen2

  • Problem with running (playing) Hexen 2 maps in Quake, or running Quake maps in Hexen2

    So, it may sound stupid, pointless etc for someone, but I just want to get working Hexen 2 maps in Quake or Quake maps in Hexen 2 (I mean the original maps aswell). Since both these games use the same engine.
    If I ever try to play these maps in a different game, it gives me errors, like Host_Error: CM_LoadMap: FUNNY LUMP SIZE, backwards mins/maxs, Host_Error: Program error and something like that. I had that same problem also with Doom 3 and Quake 4.
    So, if anyone knows how to fix this problem whatever it takes to load these maps in those games then please let me know. If you want to ask any extra information, ask anything from me or tell me something then please do it. I hope myself, I have come to the right place to find solution for this problem(s), I'd be really satisfied and happy , if someone finds solution for this.
    And sorry, if my English isn't too good.

      Same engine doesn't mean same version.
      For example Unreal Tournament 3 and Gears of War 2 use the same engine (Unreal 3) but their maps not not compatible with one another.
      HalfLife 1 uses a modified Q1 engine and it too isn't compatible.

      I would say try a alternate engine - Darkplaces or something and see if it works then. However even doing so - the maps won't work either. Entities would be broken (absent), triggers (like doors opening) wont work and so on. You will have to actually edit the maps themselves and replace triggers, entities (pickups, enemies, ect) to be their Quake/Hexen equal.
      In otherwords even if you could load up a Hexen2 level in Quake or vise versa - doesn't mean it will be functional.

          hexen2 has 8 'hulls', quake only has 4, that's the only technical difference, but its significant enough to make it incompatible. as far as I'm aware, DP can't load hexen2 bsps. FTE can, but you'll end up with the internal textures using the wrong palette. Replacement textures will work, but even then you'll need a progs which supports the extra ents too. It won't just magically work.

            Thank you guys so much . I got it working with FTE finally . Yeah, I know that the maps are not functional in any different game, but it worked perfectly for me. And thank you again, I can hopefully play another games maps that are with Quake engine, not just Quake and Hexen 2 maps with FTE. I have heard that you could even play different game engines maps that are near to Quake engine with FTE, I already played Half-Life maps in Quake and Hexen 2 also and it simply surprised me. Well, I dunno, but I had in mind to play other game engines maps in different games that use the same engines and those engines may be far from Quake's, as I mentioned before, I tried to play maps between Doom 3 and Quake 4 (everybody knows that they use the same engine), but I had no luck with being able to run all the original or custom maps anyhow between both of these games, so, I'll see what I'll do next with it.
