Help with CTF setup

Hello all, it's been a while since I've touched Quake, like since 1999 or something. I'm not computer savvy at all. So if lend some help I need it very detailed. Like step by step.


I've done everything except the create a batch file and at it to my Quake shortcut so I can play CTF. I dont know where to begin to add this to my quake shortcut command line. Could someone explain this to me?

I've downloaded the map paks, made a "CTF" folder.

Also, I goto the in-game console, type Connect "zero.quakeone.com" I get the message "trying" then "Connection accepted" but nothing happens. It just stays in the console. Maybe it has to do with the batch file that I need to create?

How do I get to the Quake command Line so I can add "game + ctf" ?

in this document put in;

change the .txt doument extention to .bat and double click

I have no idea what quake engine it is. I installed the game. When I installed the game it was installed into C: Quake program folder. The Game is the very first Quake, designed in 1996. Also, after I create this text document, what folder do I put it in?

I know the version of the game I installed is 1.09 i believe.

I am able to connect to something from the console after I typed in connect zero.quakeone.com I type in the color I want to join, but it sticks in the console and doesnt go any further. It says there is nobody else there, and it gives me a ghost code. Is this happening because nobody else is on the server? I remember we used to be able to run around on maps even if there was nobody on the server. I created the batch file and put it in my quake folder and double clicked and I was able to get further so I think I did it right.

Hopefully I am doing this right, I thought I would be at least be able to run around on the maps by myself...lol Any more advice?

Try Drakplaces, an advanced Quake engine. Just make a shortcut to darkplaces.exe and set it up like you normally would. Then download this 3wave pk3 I put together and stick it in the ID1 folder. Darkplaces will then use the 3wave files whenever they are called on...
