  • quakeone.com chat

We used to have it so we could chat via irc through the browser here on quakeone.com

Where did this go and can we get it back? Is this something I need to message Steve about?

This would help immensely for tourneys.

I think a non-IRC chat would be great here - that links to our account. So those who abuse, can be banned from it.

I don't know the answers but Solecord in the past expressed serious concern about the need for administration of such a thing.

I personally do not believe live chat on the QuakeOne.com without an army of administrators would ever work.

If we ever had it --- and if it is now gone, Mindzfield's guess seems logical.
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

The chat we used to have here was an in-browser irc client that really had no link to the QuakeOne website aside from people here setting up an IRC channel under the QuakeOne name - it didn't tie in with accounts here or anything. It was removed because it wasn't a part of the software we upgraded the site to way back when.

The profile comments thing was being abused by spammers so it was shut off. Sorry about that but it was the only way to stop the spammers from abusing the site.

Regards to adding chat back, yes we can possibly add it back. IRC or a standalone chat program that ties in with the site accounts? Thoughts? If we do bring a standalone chat on we would need admins like Baker said. This is not something I'm willing to simply add on without dedication to administration of it.

I'd go for a tie-into accounts. Would allow for easier kick/temp-ban/perm-ban of users (from the chat client).
If we take our current administrative/moderative team and give them those, there should be enough to keep a eye out. Could easily grant a few members on the boards here just moderator rights for the chats too.

However we do it I'm most definitely willing to administrate. I was actually an IRC op on gamesurge if any of you remember and ETG helper, IRC commands I know very well. But yes, this would be awesome. Can't we set it up like facebook? baha
