  • Cant connect online

Hi I can't seem to get quake online. When I try to connect to quake.runequake.com:26000 I keep getting an error

-- > Client to server keepalive
    Unknown command "pq_fullpitch
    Unknown command "cl_fullpitch
Use -zone 1024 if quake crashes
I then get to a screen where it says press 2 to play but when i press 2

    Unknown command 'init'
By the way I'm playing on Quake GX 0.5 using the Homebrew Channel on the Wii and I have the full version of quake.

    Thanks.

The server is trying to set the pq_fullpitch/cl_fullpitch OFF but your client doesnt have those commands so no worries.

The unknown command init is when the server is trying to test the alias 'init' to see if you have the runequake binds assigned by the server (ie if you have reconnected). You can ignore that as well.

You ARE connected to the server successfully, though, at this point if you are still sitting at the console, this is because you do not have the map currently loaded on the server. Which means you are probably using only the maps provided by the shareware version.

(Hmm, aren't there any ID(tm) GPL'd compiled maps out there??)

I have PAK1.pak and pak0.pak so I should have the maps and when I press 2 on the OSK nothing happens so I thought it was because of the unknown commands.

EDIT: I loaded it up on Q1Rev which is another Quake engine for the Wii and when I pressed 2 I could play fine although I kept getting killed because the controls are just terrible.

ITT: Nobody knows what's going on.

He's trying to play Quake on the Wii, his first problem was because he was pressing the 2 button on the Wiimote which isn't actually bound to "impulse 2" which is what needs to be sent to actually join the game.

@WarioN64: You'll be much better off playing Quake on a PC and not a console, since you've got the paks just fetch an engine from somewhere and you're all set.

              I already read that.

I am pressing 2 on the on-screen keyboard and not the physical button on the Wii remote and I haven't played on the computer in ages so I'm used to the Wii controls.
I also use Ubuntu which I've had no look on getting Quake to run on. I searched and found a thread on this site but the step-by-step guide didn't work.

I think I'll just try to get Windows on my computer again so I can install Quake.

EDIT:By the way it just seems to be Runequake that won't work. I successfully played Fantasy vs Future and CTF on the Wii as long as they were using the id maps.

@Foq: I never left, I just don't post here. I made an exception now because the massive ignorance got to me.

@WarioN64: I was able to run Darkplaces on Ubuntu, you may want to try that.

                  On the Ubuntu problem:

There are pre-compiled binaries of darkplaces for linux, all you have to do is extract them into your quake folder. DP is not a great client for MP imo but it will do.

I think u have to modified your config and bind that key to impulse 2. (if u can)
Try to select that key for some function in controls and check what it says , joy2 , aux2 ?

I modified my config for my iphone that way and now I can play online.

Doesn't the iphone have a touch screen? How can you play Quake with a touch screen?!

Thanks for the replies. I managed to get it to work by manually typing in impulse 2 in the console.

I also get "unknown command cl_fullpitch" in Qrack, except there is no "press 2 to play", it just stays on the console forever. The server is running standard ID Quake maps, so I know it isn't a map issue. Anyone know the solution?
