  • Graphical glitches with Darkplaces.

    Hello fellow "Quakers"

I decided to try out Mac OS X Darkplaces as an alternative to the much older GL Quake Mac release and I definitely like it but there's an issue with the graphics that I've been unable to resolve.

The machine I'm using is a 2GB 2Ghz MacBook Pro with the ATI Radeon X1600 chipset. Some of the colours are "messed up" and the enemies and many objects are rendered as silhouettes. I have experimented with the settings in the hope I could correct the problem but no joy. I have also tried the betas and downloaded the QRP texture add-on's but I still encounter the same issue.

I also searched through the forum but I didn't come across any information or leads for a potential fix. Has anyone else encountered this? Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

The Mac build is the least supported and least stable of the DarkPlaces platforms ... largely because the main devs don't have a Mac and have to have 3rd parties compile and so forth.

Your best option is to use an older DarkPlaces release.

You'll have to hunt around because not all of the DarkPlaces releases contain a Mac version. Picking dates like 8/8/2008 or 7/7/2007 or 9/9/2009 or 10/4/2010 are better bets for releases with a Mac build.

There is no "good" answer to your question except downloading, running and trying them out.

Turn off RTLIGHTS , and all other lighting options. Then, turn them back on peice by peice.

DP has too many settings to shake a stick at!

From his screenshots much of it actually gave off similar errors when I installed the "Ultra" Rygels pack.
Are you at all running any custom content or just simply default Q1 install with the Darkplaces engine?

Thanks for the replies, I'll try the older builds and see what results I get from adjusting the lighting options. I'm just running the standard Darkplaces engine and the default PAK files, no custom content at all.

          Thanks again.

Success! Tinkering with RTLIGHTS and the other lighting parameters didn't produce any improvements but reverting to an earlier build appears to have done the trick!

It took a bit of trial and error till I found a version that works but I got there. Hopefully this will help any fellow MacQuakers who experience the same problem.

            Thanks for the help.
