  • FPS + Mouse problem

I dont know if this is a rare problem but I havent heard of it before. I used to play with pqmax_fps 300 and sometimes had the problem that I just kept walking forward without doing anything.

Today when I changed maxfps to 60 just to see if there where any difference, ( there wassnt any difference on 60 maxfps and 300 ) This error happent all the time as soon as I jumped and walked forward at the same time, it triggerd something so I kept walking forward without doing anything. But that wassnt the only issue. I also get some kind of artifact or rather a distorted line moving across the screen slowly, it start below and move upwards over and over again.

Any idea whats wrong or what I can do about it? I also noticed that sensitivity got lower with a lower FPS, I noticed mouse DPI change sensitivity too, can anyone explain how this is all related to eachother? Are there any other values that need to be included for the sensitivity like monitor Hz? And one last thing I noticed, Quake displayed that I had 15 hihger ping with 60 fps then 300, even when there isnt any visual difference for me between 60 and 300 fps. Why would FPS change the ping when there isnt even any visual difference between 60 and 300 fps?

Mouse: Habu Razer, not using it wireless.
    Monitor: Dell/Alienware2210 (60Hz)
Quake ver: PQ3.99 software, no GL
    Resolution: 320*200

Any pro around? Thanks for any help =)

Heres some more information, the distortion only shows when I move. Once I stop moving its gone again.

Ping can be higher if you set your maxfps lower because you're not choking your connection so much. Each frame that is run there is a certain amount of data that gets sent to the server. This is more or less a fixed size and it doesn't matter if the frame takes 30ms or 1ms; the same amount of data must go. So if you're running too fast for your net connection you'll flood it and get lower ping.

There's no correct maxfps that works best in all situations for everybody; it all depends on the speed and latency of your connection, as well as how much other traffic is going over it. So experiment with different values until you find the one that works best for you.
