  • Help with error

Can someone tell me what an "out of handles" error indicates. I just started getting it when using d3dpro451 to play the weapons mod, Fqreal. It used to play fine, but now is giving me this error. If I knew what it meant then maybe I could trace what change I made which caused the problem. I've installed an alternate audio and the dx8_enginex_464 engine, could either of those made a change which is causing my issue?
    Thanks

Probably has too many pak files that it uses. ProQuake still uses an archaic file system and I think that it cannot have more than 10 files open at the same time.

I can't guarantee a fast fix for this. You might need to use another engine like FitzQuake 0.85 at Fitzquake in the mean time to run this mod.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Worked like a charm Baker! Thank you again.

So, I still would like to know what the error means. Is it referring to "handles" as the number of items an engine has to use or load? Sorry for my ignorance, but I am trying to learn guys.

Look at it like a handle on a tool, not enough hands to handle all the resources needed, I believe thats more or less whats happening.

If theres multiple pak files, could try re-paking them into less total number of pak files. Or one big pak file? Is there a limit to how big a pak file can be?

Ok guys, now upon finishing E3M4 and trying to get to the next map I get the following error:
              Hunk_Alloc: failed on 33554448bytes
It won't let me even load it from the console so any ideas?
              Thanks

From my experience that's a Memry/RAM issue. Either you have too little RAM or the engine isn't using enough.
I use Darkplaces, so the commands for others I do not know.
                try: -heapsize 128000 or 131072
                add that to the shortcut

                  OoPpEe,
Again, worked like a charm. Thank you.
I'm glad to know what some of these errors are since I like to use older engines as well as Qrack and Darkplaces. I use the older engines to better play some of the old mods and now can troubleshoot more on my own without bothering people here as much.
                  Regards
                  Jeff

Not a problem. I have my Darkplaces use "524288" lol.
Excessive and likely unneeded but I have the extra RAM and I use almost 100% custom content (minus sounds)
