DarkPlaces ate my Qrack

Qrack has no characters after sharing an id1
After seperating them and giving each their own copies of id1
issue remains.
All progs textures and .pk3's removed and only pak0 and pak1 in id1

I felt your pain one time ,and thats all i took to forever keep DP and other Quake installations seperate. I still have two quakes because of this.


Try going into options and using classic settings. Then, close / exist quake the correct way. Reopen, see if problem persists

Yes. it can be indeed frustrating..I wish Darkplaces would have its own folder like most engines. Isn't there some home command or something? like keeping Darkplaces files in My Documents?

just go ahead and seperate your installations for DP vs Other Clients , and only use the DP install for DP.

The other installation can cater to all your other client needs (Qrack,DirectQ and variants,GLPro and EngineX all can coexist in my experience)
You WONT regret going ahead and making this vital solution

I'd suggest either installing DarkPlaces in its own folder, or using a shortcut to -gamedir DP. I havent testing this situation, but I have had times where my configuration was fubar'd by gamedir-ing into quake/qrack through DP. But also having an autoexec.cfg in any engine's sub folder can help.

Yea I deleted the configs also and isnt there a setting to choose the font Rook?
This is/was the stable windows xp rig.

No nothing is wrong with anything GB it is more a case of my extreme hacking at the directory paths engine options ect..
I probably pulled in the dpmod on Qrack or my CTF mod while running DP.
Caution is advised to anyone using multiple mods at once.

I have changed the font to 4 with the cfg but no change.
Yes it would be nice to see what im typing in though.
It is in it's own folder.

Hello bluntz,

may I help you with your issue.
If you cannot read the text inside your Quake (example in your console),
simply use this command:
con_textsize (default =8 )
Try a value of 9 or 10

This is for DarkPlaces. Qrack has for sure something similar.

Please answer my PM�s I sent you some time ago.


By the way:
DP or any other engine will never "eat" a file or even another engine.
It will never delete any file.
The only file, that are edited are the config files.
Thats why: Listen to R00k�s suggestion and use autoexec�s in your engine folders.
That will keep away most of the trouble.
And always make backups of your config�s (thats what I do).

Got it working using Seven's Hud

None of the previous tips worked.Not even applying A previous saved config.
Condition has yet to occur on the lucid box but I preemptively seperated directories whereas I had to
seperate postmortem on my XP rig.

Hud works but the menu is still borked majorly
Rook If you could tell me where they are supposed to reside and maybe what stomps it would help.
