  • SoA and DoE problems..

    Hi everybody!

    A long time ago (when I was a kid) I got both oficial expansions of quake, SoA and DoE.. Both really good, but liked more DoE..
    Now I wanna replay them and upgrade visuals as the original quake but I have some issues 'round here and I hope you can help me..

    1st) Can't start a new game :S
    I got this:


    "Can't find function snow_think in server"
    I noticed that that the snow in start.bsp (Seven's .ent file) is making a conflict with both SoA and DoE's start.bsps.. so when I delete start.ent the game runs, but another issue appears:
    2nd)

    Not good.. I wanna keep my .ent file, but I don't know how to make the expansions run properly..
    Any ideas?

    you could make a new ent file for the start map in each mission pack...


    got this from Seven

    I dont know if you know how to create an .ent file.
    If not, its simple:
    - load your map (map xyz)
    - type: sv_saveentfile and the xyz.ent file will be created.
    - then edit it just like OoPpEe described it above.


    place them in each mission pack maps folder.


    2nd problem looks like you need the lit and rtlight files for

    the mission packs and place them in each mission pack maps folder.

        Excelent! Creating .ent files for each map was the solution.. Thank you!
        But I found another issue, can't see torchflames.. =/
        Always talking about both expansions..

          daniocampo1992,

          1.) be careful with mixing .rtlight files for Quake, MP1 and MP2.
          As you know all of these have the same "start.map" name for their starting map.

          If you put the Quake rtlights pack into your ID1 (as a .pk3) or directly into ID1/maps (as .rtlights files) folder,
          Then the start.rtlights file will be used for both MP 1+2 start levels as well !!

          The result is your 2nd screenshot from above, because the .rtlights file does not match to the map.

          So always be aware of it.


          2.) torchlights
          Of course you dont see any sprite torchlights in the mission packs.
          The torchlights are NOT part of Quake. They are modded inside.
          You can use my mission packs mods, then you will have all features in it:

            Hello Seven..
            The first solution was very simple, just created .ent files for each start.bsp on their own folders..

            About the second, I didn't noticed that you made small mod compilations for each MP.. Thanks for that, but there are not so good news:

            Mod compilation for MP2 (DoE) simply doesn't works, no idea why could be..
            The compilation for MP1 (AoE) it's ok I think, but the nails stick in walls doesn't works..

              The small mod compilations work.
              You simply have to read the included readme.txt�s, what you dont seem to do.
              "Nails in walls" is disabled in V2.5 for Nailgun !

              There are many things that you have to be careful about your mission pack folders.
              They should be in the correct subfolders, your darkplaces shortcut must be correct to start them,
              The "small mod compilation"�s as well as other .pk3 files must be placed in the correct folder.

              There is not much more information, that you provided in your post.
              "simply doesnt work" is not much


              By looking at your screenshot 1 (in your 1st post), I see that your DarkPlaces version is totally out of date.
              I see that you have failure messages about models.
              I see that you have corruptes .lit files.
              ...and so on.

              So, please get rid of these issues/failures first, before try out new .pk3�s.
              Otherwise you will never find the reason for your problem.

              Always remember: The console is your friend (and tells you important things)

                This is just too much for me.. -.-'

                I have latest stable version of DP (20100408 )
                There is not much more information, that you provided in your post.
                "simply doesnt work" is not much
                Well, I have the pk3 in my rogue folder, but there are no footsteps, no kickable gibs, no newfire, no nails stick on the wall even with the supernailgun.. Anything..
                And I don't know what could be the origin of the corrupt files..

                  in your rogue/hipnotic folder is there a progs.dat? If so rename it to progs-orig.dat and reinstall Sevens patch and see if that fixes it.

                    Perfect! I deleted the progs.dat file and everything works well.. Thank you!
                    Another question:
                    Are there texture packs as rygel's one for both mission packs?

                      Not presently. The QRP team *may* do the Mission Pack textures. I'd recommend switching to QRP's textures as they are more recently and can have possible updates - whereas Rygels haven't been touched or updated in years.

                        Hello daniocampo1992,

                        when I say that you have an outdated version of DarkPlaces, i mean it.

                        Your version from 20100408 does not work with:
                        - Shader-Animated b_boxes
                        - High Res Moving Skies
                        - Crashes when loading E4M2 (with RT-World enabled)
                        - Quake Reforged skins/shaders
                        - Footstep sound (from small mod compilation)
                        - Other shader related enhancements (teleporter ?)
                        - You could have much more fps as you have right now

                        So, please use a newer build.

                          Oh, there are betas.. The newer build you mean is 20110203 or just the most recent one?
