  • DP missing flames

I play actual (in my short spare time) singleplayer Q1. Actual i'm at The Dismal Oubliette. I wondered about the torches, they look all like on my screenshot:

Shouldn't they have flames? rtlights for ID1 are present.

    Guten Tag my friend

Your problem has been mentioned here.

Reason: You use the flame.mdl model from Rygels pack.

This model has no flames, only the torch.
That is why you dont see a flame.

Either use the "small mod compilation" (to have the beautiful sprite flame from LordHavoc),
or use a different flame.mdl (the original ID1 for example).

    Viel Spass,
    Seven

Oh yes, i searched the forums but i think i used wrong/different search terms. Thanks again mein Freund, you are such a great help. The small mod compilation sounds not bad, i'll have a look at it but it also contains stuff i don't want in Quake (e.g. footsteps). Maybe i mod this small mod compilation to fit me needs. I really appreciate your help.

        Hello,

you know, recently I added cvars to enable/disable things in the mod.
The footsteps are disabled very easily:
Simply delete the .wav files for the footsteps in the pk3

        Please try it.

Well, i downloaded your mod. Deleted the wavs in the .pk3 and then fired up DP. Now it looks like this:

And i get error messages on the console about the missing footsteps wav's...

            Hello grave_digga,

You can ignore the console message.
Of course you get it, cause DP wants the wavs but cannot find it.
Everything is good. You dont have a negative sideffect other than the console message.
You will not even notice it, when you dont open the console.

            Regarding your visual issue:
You have to go back to the beginning and find your inner center.
            (quoted Yodas wisdom from StarWars)

What I want to say is:
You must rename/remove all your pk3s and stuff and find the reason for it.
The small mod compilation works fine.
There is some conflicting issue in your setup.
You know the deal, grave_digga. Just like the issues you had with "pretty water".
Sometimes a small file can freak up your complete setup.
Maybe another "progs.dat" somewhere in your ID1 ?

I suggest you remove every other pk3, pak and subfolders out of ID1.
If it works then, bring back one file after the other and check again.
Then you will surely find the "bad" one.

Be also sure to use februar 3rd 2011 DP build for testing.

There are also many hint and tips in the "small mod compilation" thread.
You should read them for more information, trouble finding from other users with issues.

            Kind regards,
            Seven

It also could of been caused by the savegame bug. If you look at the screenshots - they are identical basically. Reload the level and see if that fixes it too.
I got this same bug when I was testing out my code changes in my mod. I simply changed the content of what spawns from the Horn and loaded up a previous save. I had Enforcer yelling "Stop" as my door opening sound, a laser model in place of rocket ammo, picking up ammo made a Vore scream. A changed progs.dat with a save made without it makes things f***ed up.

Oopee: it's also a savegame issue, you're right. Well, finishing the level solved this.

Seven: I deleted the flame.mdl from Rygels pack. When i use your small mod compilation it works with the new flames, they look good. But even if i leave the footsteps untouched i get often this messages on the top of the screen:

                  I see grave_digga.
I thought the warning message will only appear inside the console.
But it also shows on the screen...

                  solutions:
                  - Put back the .wav files and enjoy the nice footstep sounds
                  - create dummy .wav files with only silence in it and put it back in the pk3

I made the dummy files for you (see attachment)

Hav fun playing with the "small mod compilation" my friend.

                  //////////////////////////////////////////////////

While rereading your post I noticed that the error message is a different one than before.

And I think I know the reason:
You still use your previous save game. You just finished the level with the flame issue and after ending the map and loading the next one, the flame issue is gone.
                  But not the footsteps issue.

I bet, when you start a "New Game" all issues are gone.
If you continue the game, in which you switched the "progs.dat" the sound issue will always be there.
You can try it by starting a "New game". You should not have this error.

It is just a guess. But that would mean, you would have to start a new game.
And now that you are already in the third episode, you most likely dont want to do that.

                  So, possible solutions:
                  - end your game without "small mod compilation"
                  - start a "New Game" and load the map where you are at the moment and give yourselve the 2 runes and all weapons with the impulse cheat. Then continue your game with "small mod compilation".

I got this issue with the disappeared flames only in the SoA mission pack. When I got Primeval's model with skins, it was somewhat fixed. The only thing that doesn't seem to work is the additional sprite effect from the "Making DarkPlaces even MORE beautiful" thread. In SoA, I only see the modelled flame, but not the sprite. Any solution for this?
