    what folder do i put downloaded maps in?some of the files are still saying 7zip and others show the install logo on them?whats up with those?

      As Bluntz above me said, downloaded maps can be put in ID1/maps. When you've done that read the Readme if included, most of the time you can load the map in quake by typing map "mapname" (like "e1m5" for example)

      There's also a command for changing difficulty levels before loading a map but I don't know the command. I usually go to the start level, choose a difficulty and then load the map.


      However, there are also some maps that come with their own files. These need to be put in the Quake directory, like Quake/"modname" (Quake/Nehahra for example) However, usually a Readme will explain how to install and run something like this)

      7-Zip is packaging program. You need to unpack it first to use the map. You could use for example 7-Zip itself

      I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "Install" logo.
