  • Darkplaces really slow

    Hi,
Have win 7 32, 3x core Phenom II, Ati 4870, 3g ram. Playing every new game max/high, but darkplaces (latest build) runs wih 2-3 frames second on 640x480. Tried to delete config, got like 4-5 fps.
Even my other computer, which has 4350 Ati, some old Pentium D, 2 g ram and winxp 32 runs this with 30-60 frames.

Cant understand the source of problem.

Also tried to turn off all possible graphic enhancments in settings. Still havent seen more than 5 fps.

Maybe a driver issue? Standard Quake with only Darkplaces? Then you should run at least 300+ FPS in 640x480. Tried an older dp build?

It was bad driver, or more precisely bad opengl32.dll, thanks for input! Now with big Rygels texture pack at fullhd 1920x1080 quake gives me like 120fps!

Same with me and the birthday dates from my wife and kids

Ok I tried the Feb 3rd one, and it gets about the same frame rate as the build I'm using currently. However it has over bearing gamma and I cannot get it dark enough, it's WAY too bright for me, and setting everything to minimum it is still far too bright.

I am using a build from 24th of July, it doesn't have the brightness or the darkness problems I've had with other builds, and the frame rates are just as high as the feb 3rd one. So I would recommend giving that one a try. I can upload it somewhere if needed, but I only have the 64 bit windows build and not the source anymore.

                            Hello Roy Batty,

You see, everybody has his own favorites and reasons.
                            And this is good.

But one last thing should be at least mentioned in this topic.
You should not forget to look into your config, when you switch between the builds, that you mentioned.
They have some different default settings.
Some are important for fps. Example:
                            r_shadow_shadowmapping
(different gpu types profit from it, others suffers)

In the new built, that you mention, LordHavoc set its default value to "1".
The "old" build had its default set to "0" (in the engine itself).
So if you used this feature in your old ones, switch to new and back to old, the config entry will be deleted.
                            Reason:
DarkPlaces automatically deletes all config settings, that are the default ones.
So be careful, that you dont compare apples with pears.

This is all I wanted to add.
I am happy that you found your build of choice my friend

                            Best wishes,
                            Seven

Seven: Thanks for being helpful in general =]

As for the config, yes I know it deletes it and resets things, so I have a rather extensive autoexec.cfg to set everything how I like it. Including binds and scripts and what not, thankfully I am used to scripting in source games, so it came very easy to me for quake

I searched for a thread where people post their autoexec, but only found one old one which is closed now. Maybe should start a new one? I dunno... just a thought.

Yes I found a build I like which works well for me on my system, so I will use it until another one comes out that I like too. =]

                              Cheers
