  • Enable music (ogg) in darkplaces?

Hi, I got my hands on the quake soundtrack which was in mp3 and so I converted the files to .ogg and put them in Quake/id1/sound/cdtracks/ and named them all track02.ogg etc...

The tracks won't play at all and when I check the console I get this message

    "Error while opening sound/cdtracks/track02.ogg"
    "cd audio_sysgetaudiodiskinfo: drive not ready"

I assume it's probably looking in my physical drive or something, I don't really know...can anybody help me with this? any console command I have to input or something?

EDIT: I had mistyped the directory above...I put everything in the correct directory but I still get that error...

    .../quake/id1/sound/cdtracks

I actually mistyped it above, that's the folder where I put it actually!

Ah ok try adding another 0 to their names. The ones I have in my folders are:
        Track002.ogg
        Track003.ogg
        ...
        Track010.ogg
        Track011.ogg

          Thanks for the quick reply!

Tried that but it didn't work, I'm sure the game/engine is looking for a physical drive or something but I don't know if I have to probably redirect it or something...

Shouldn't need to, I just tried with a fresh config.cfg and worked instantly.
Could actually be just a corrupted ogg file (program you used didn't save them correctly); as it is saying error opening.
            Remove them and try these:

Just put the pk3 in your .../id1/ folder

Tried those that you linked and they worked perfectly! thanks!

I don't know what's wrong with the other ones because I can play them just fine on any player, and the sound quality it's about the same or better actually...maybe they are too high and the engine doesn't support high bit-rates...

              Again, thanks.

just what i was going to suggest.
                Try reducing bitrate to 44100.

Certainly not better quality, because you transcoded them from lower quality mp3's. Where as the ones I made are directly from the the original CDDA tracks on the real CD's, ripped with combined offset correction (drive+disc write offset), and encoded in ogg at the highest available quality setting.

Well I hope you should enjoy using them anyways as they do work. =]

That's what I thought, but the output OGG files were easily twice as big as the mp3 originals!

For example one of the tracks was originally 12MB...it ended up being 54MB!

Yikes! Uninstall the program that converted the mp3 to ogg.
Ogg compresses MUCH better than MP3; if anything it should of been smaller in filesize.

From his post it appears he just renamed the mp3's to ogg.
                        That wont work.

Hey, no I just went and converted using some free software I found on the internet...

But I went and downloaded the link that OoPpEe provided and that worked.

By the way, awesome profile picture (Sepultura Beneath the Remains right?)!

                            Correct you are!
I am glad you like it.
I use Audacity for all my audio work, its free and works very well.
                            P.S.
The link for mine is a ripped COC *hint hint*
When exporting the mp3 from audacity use a quality setting 7 and above for the ogg.
