  • Rygel weapons in QRP

    Hey gang,
    I hope you can help me in my frustration. I'm wanting to have rygel's weapons in my QRP Quake. As an example, I extracted the v_rock2.mdl from rygel progs and all of the v_rock2 bump, norm and gloss textures from rygel textures and placed them in their respective folders in my QRP folder. What am I not doing or missing as I still get the old model in QRP and not the rygel model. I'm wanting to do this with all weapons so any guidance or tutorial for what I'm doing wrong would be greatly appreciated. I am not using DP mod by the way, and am using the DP autobuild from the past that Seven suggested.

    Ensure the .mdl is in the (modfolder)/progs/

    Some programs when they extract the file they tend to keep the folder format with it, so you could end up with:
    id1/progs/progs/v_rock2.mdl

      Thanks for responding. I do have the v_rock2.mdl in the QRP progs folder. I was re-looking, do I need the v_dprock2.mdl instead? If not, what is it?? OK, what are the g models as opposed to the v models??

        Don't need the v_dprock2.mdl that's a model exclusive the dpmod.
        G_ models are (G)round models and the V_ are the (V)iew models.

        If you have them like this:
        ..../quake/qrp/progs/v_rock2.mdl
        then it should be loading the Ruohis' rocket launcher (if extracted from Rygels pack).
        Ensure though you are running Quake with the:
        -game QRP
        on the shortcut.

          Would the -game QRP be necessary? I have no QRP folder in my Quake. I've extracted the contents of the rygel high pk3 and the QRP item pk3 and am trying to "swap out" and then create a new pk3 with 7zip to drop in the ID1 folder.

            Try to see if you can get it working before making it a pk3 - extract all the contents first and see if that works.

                If you have the v_rock2.mdl and g_rock2.mdl in your quake/id1/progs/(v or g)_rock2.mdl
                it should work just fine.

                When you boot it up, does it give any error messages in the console?

                  Ok, I'm not putting the g model in the progs folder with the v model, so maybe that's the problem?

                      Here is a quick snap of my id1 folder. perhaps something else is interfering? Also here is a snap of the progs and texture folders from QRP with my switched items.

                        I honestly would do trial and error. Remove ALL pk3 and everything. Start with a fresh id1 folder to get it going first. Then add everything 1 by 1 until you come across what is conflicting with it.

                          I figured it out now OoPpEe and truly feel like an idiot. I put the items from rygel's pack into the progs and textures of the QRP items pk3 not in the id1 progs and texture folders.
                          Thank you for trying to help.
                          I could use help in identifying the files to change the rocket(missile?) ammo pickup to replace the QRP ones which I find lame. If anyone has suggestions other than rygel's for pickups I'm open to suggestions.

                            You said earlier that you are using compilation from QuakeHD for new spawns thread. If so, you were already using "Rygel's" weapons with QRP except they are called Ruohis' weapons because it's a nickname of the guy who made them

                            If you want to rip off ammo from Rygel's you need also *.bsp files from maps folder. But ooppee's/seven's rework of Ruhis' ammo included in compilation looks better imo.

                              Dont worry Jeff,

                              Sometimes we all have our days, in which we are confused/blind to things.

                              Regarding your ammo pickups question:
                              Didnt you see this thread yet ? klick

                              ammo + health pickups work differently compared to powerup pickups.
                              Those models are inside your maps folder and have the .bsp extension.
                              They can be the same type of model format like the powerup ones (mdl, md2, md3, ..). External texture naming convention is identical in DP.

                              Your specific question:
                              rockets small: b_rock0.bsp
                              rockets big: b_rock1.bsp

                              There are many many many other remodeled ammo + health pickups available for Quake. As I said several times: There is more than just Rygels compilation out there.
                              Unfortunately many people dont know them...
