  • Getting GTK Radiant to work

Hey everyone. So I've been using GTK Radiant for many years to make Quake 3 maps, but I could never get it to work for Quake 1.

I started using QuARK, but I don't really care for it because it takes like an hour to render my map and there are all sorts of graphical/interface problems that annoy me.

When I try using GTKRadiant, none of the textures show up!
    What am I doing wrong?

    Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: Alright, I threw Quake1.wad in my ID1 folder, but some textures aren't showing up, such as the cliff/rock texture, and some of the water textures. Also, I can't get GTKRadiant to render the map!

Some textures aren't showing up? You mean in-editor or after you compile the map?

Not rendering your map? You mean there is nothing in the 3D window? o_O

    Please explain your problem better.

Where did you get your Quake1.wad? Does it contain the correct textures? Did you set the wad path in worldspawn before compiling?

When I said "render", I meant "build"... As in create the BSP and launch the engine to test the map.

I got Quake101.wad from this site and renamed it Quake1.wad and put it in my ID1 folder.

The textures are now showing up in the editor, but there are some that don't. I don't understand why.

i think quake's "wad" was simply called gfx.wad, although im not confident the naming has anything to do with it. Try obtaining a original copy quake 1, then extract the gfx.wad files from pak0.pak and pak1.pak. You can then probably go as far as to use another program to combine wad files into one.
