  • problem with new video cards / drivers

    Hi,

I have just bought a new computer. It has a Nvidia GTX 560 video card, and I use the driver provided by the manufacturer (Asus, version 240.xxx). All the games I have tried so far (Quake 2, Quake 3, Unreal Tournament) work fine, but I have a problem with Quake 1.

I tried glpro and the original glquake. In both cases the game starts up OK but the background (both in the menus and when I play a map) is white. Winquake and zquake are OK, so it is probably an OpenGL problem.

Any idea what the problem may be and how to solve it?

    Thanks!

Go to the nvidia website and update your drivers. I had some issues with my gtx460 out of the box with the provided drivers, but they were fixed once I went to the nvidia website and updated.

Use -no8bit on the command line. GLQuake tries to use a shitty old 3DFX extension for using less texture memory (which was important back in the days when you had 2MB texture memory) and I guess so does ProQuake. Unfortunately it's a little agressive in detecting it and many modern cards don't agree with it.
