  • Omicron Bot Source code - Released Yet?

Hi all. I was wondering if the Omicron source code has been released by the author. I heard somewhere that he decided not to release it, but I wasn't sure if that was old news. If it hasn't been released, then could someone point me to a good decompiler? I tried FrikQCC, but it only gave me the defs.qc. :/ It is also an older mod, the progs.dat was made in 1998 so I wondered if that was before the time they had those compilers that made it to where you couldn't decompile. If anybody could answer this question, that would be great!
    Thanks again,
    Jastolze
Edit: Also, how do you install the omicron bot in rocket arena? It tells me to put the progs.dat in the rocket arena directory, but wouldn't that then replace the rocket arena's progs.dat? I'm pretty sure you can't have two progs.dat files working simultaneously in the same folder, right?

iirc rocket arena is a mod you can place the omicron bots in. read the manual, i recall something about issuing impulse 200 and then using the menu to change game mode to rocket arena or something..

as for the sauce: no idea o.O

Schedule a 1v1 against Baker in RA. Thats 10x better than Omicron bot any day

Hey, how did you get it to work? I tried adding the secondary progs.dat from omicron into a PAK0.pak file (since there's already one from Rocket Arena, and if I place it in the Rocket Arena directory, it would replace the existing one) So, Could you be specific in where EXACTLY to put it, because after I loaded the game, it recognized a couple of commands, but didn't do anything with them. (instead it gave me some error or something) So, whoever can answer this question, can you be specific in where to put the progs file? I did read the manual, but didn't explain too much. Thanks again!

Sure thing, i'll do my best but i've forgotten 99% of it, so you'll have to take that into consideration As far as I recall, rocket arena mod is already included in omicron's progs.dat, so you don't need to place any extra progs.dat anywhere. All you have to do is to install omicron bots the usual way (unpack the zip file into an omicron directory), start quake with omicrons the usual way (yourfavouritequakebinary.exe -game omicron), start a deathmatch with them, and then type impulse 200 in the console. A menu should pop up, where you can tell the omicrons to team up with you, what skill they should have etc etc... and... if you want to play rocket arena or not.

Update: I figured it out, and I was wrong, there is no impulse 200 involved.

According to the manual u should indeed copy omicron's progs.dat to arena's game folder and start quake with -registered 2. Now I don't know why that is, because this is how I do it:

            1. Start quake the usual way with -game omicron, don't copy progs.dat to anywhere..

            2. Start a deathmatch

            3. type rocketarena in console

            4. type addbot in console

            5. done.

Thank you very much for your help, cortex! But I'm not sure if you meant to keep both the rocket arena progs AND the omicrons, or what not. I also read about the omicrons official website (the same one you did) but I didn't think that site was detailed enough. So, the only question I have left is do you put the omicrons progs.dat file in where the rocket arena one is? Or just replace it, because wouldn't that defeat the purpose of rocket arena? Thanks again.

If your running your own rocket arena server, you would have to run two clients.

Your ra folder for your dedicated/listening server, and your client would run your bot.

If your trying to create a rocket arena server, that can add omicron bots... then... you'd best bet would be to talk to who ever runs, shmack.net servers, or rook, or baker... i forget who runs shmack.net... i think its a few people now.

                Heh

Anyways, no clue if your trying to incorp it all into server-side, so when connect you can addbots, whoever runs newdm server could prob help with that as i know you can add bots on that server.

                Anyways goodluck.

Would be nice to see another rocket arena server up, esp. one that has bots on it. ^^

Well, I'm doing ALL of this on my psp, so if it involves any executable files then it won't work... As far as my question goes: I only need to know if you can use 2 progs.dat files or multiple game commands. Thanks for your help!

                    Hi!

Well the way I do it is to totally ignore my arena folder. I didn't copy progs.dat from anywhere to anywhere, it worked anyway.

                    1. Install Quake
                    2. Install Omicron
                    3. Start quake with -game omicron
                    4. Start a local deathmatch
                    5. Type: rocketarena in console
                    6. Type: addbot in console

Then I could play with the bots in rocketarena mode, and I'm pretty sure anyone connecting to the server with omicron bots loaded could participate in the rocket arena game against the bots.

                    Good luck, Sir!

Oh, so you don't need the rocket arena mod at all, huh? Just the omicrons? So, with that, I'm guessing it has built in rocket arena and doesn't need ANY of the RA files, right?
