i don't know why but i lag a lot in Team Fortress online multiplayer, like i see in videos they run it so smoothly. I can run Team Fortress Classic without any lag, so considering that Team Fortress is even older , so i don't get why i lag. So please reply...

Crappy Q1 netcode.
Older does not always equal better; the netcode was vastly improved for QW, improved more for Q2, improved for HL1, etc. NQ was left with the old latency-sensitive crappy netcode.IT LIVES! http://directq.blogspot.com/

It also depends on the ping. Qw at 150 ping still has the 150ms lag in the +attack.

cl_independent_physics 1

once you type show_fps 1, you should see the FPS counter on your screen, most likely in the upper left or right corner. It will just be a number (eg. 120). If this number drops down during a lot of action, you will feel video lag because your computer (video card) isn't powerful enough to display the game smoothly.
If that is the case, basically we would have to change some settings in ezquake so that your computer can properly handle the game.
If your FPS is fine, and doesn't drop, then you would want to check the scoreboard for your ping and PL to see if they are high during the times when you feel lag. (PL should be the column next to the ping) IF your ping goes up, you will feel lag. if your PL goes up you could feel alot of choppiness too.
If that is the case, you have connection lag, and the first thing i would say is TURN OFF any downloads or torrents or limewire or anything else unneeded. Or if you share the internet connection, it might just be the other people on your network causing you to lag.It Takes A Tough Man To Make A Tender Rocketjump

first what settings can i change on ezquake, and second my internet isn't the best, like if someone is playing xbox live and someone else is watching youtube or something , then the person playing xbox live will lag, so i think thats the case, because usually when i was playing ezquake someone else was using the internet. So i will see if i can get a time when i can use the internet by myself. Your correct about the ping like it will rise to about 300, and i try not to run anything else on my computer when im playing. Also my laptop is considered old ( its a windows vista laptop that my mom gave to me)and it doesn't have that much memory left, so that might also be the problem.

in ezquake, hit esc to bring up the menu, go to options, go over to [graphics] , at the top where it says gfx preset , select "fastest". hit ESC to go back to the game and see if it gets rid of your lag.
it will change the look , but if that makes it smooth for you, you might have to get used to it
of course every option in there can be tweaked to suit your tastes. so you might find that turning off one or two options will make everything smooth. turn on "advanced options" at the top to see them all.
example, you will probably want to keep "dynamic lightning" turned "off" because that can be taxing on some systems. but if you dont like the look of solid colored walls used by the "fastest" gfx preset, keep "simple walls" turned "off".It Takes A Tough Man To Make A Tender Rocketjump
