  • Can't remember name of a Quake One Mod

Hi, I was wondering where I could find a particular mod, it looked like this:
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOmfb9ATkTM]Quake 2 Arena PSP (Unreleased Homebrew) - YouTube[/ame]
It's basically a quake 2 weapons mod, with bots (I'm guessing the frikbot)
and it contains maps which closely resemble the ones from Hellsmash.
    Please and thank you!!!

At first I thought it was just an PSX version of Quake II Eboot for PSP, but apparently
    not.

    Quake 2 PC Port

Just send a message to Gearsguy405 through YouTube and ask him..or register at his website and visit the download section of the forums.

I sent mrgreezy a message, as he's the one who gave it to gearsguy. but he hasn't been on for almost a month... I was also told they weren't releasing it, if you viewed some of the replies, you'd see that everybody was begging for a DL link, but no cigar. Thanks for your help, though! Although, I titled the question wrong, it's supposed to say: Where can I find this quake 1 mod? Also, this isn't a quake 2 PC port, it just looks like it.

Then they should burn in the lava of E1M7.

Posting video's and then not releasing is just lame.

          That isn't true at all.

The truth is, a lot of the PSP community likes to make videos to be the community "YouTube star for the day". So some of them put together some sort of mod that looks like something else to get others to think "Wow" and spread the video.

Even though a lot of the time, the video might even be some sort of trickery. Like the above video isn't Quake 2 whatsoever.

In a lot of this cases, the moddder that made the video threw something together that showcases something they did that really doesn't merit any sort of "release".

In this video in question, they probably converted a single Quake 2 gun (the pistol) to the Quake .mdl format, ripped a sprite from Quake 2 and made a video.

Mindzy, that first map ... the space one. You've played that one before.

Other than the Quake 2 gun and the sprite ... and that grenade was made by someone whose name a cannot recall at Inside3D ... they maybe altered the screen plaque to look like Quake 2 and the rest of that is the Kurok engine for the PSP. I'm not sure about the explosion effect, but likely they made their own explosion sprite.

No harm in playing around. Sure someone looking for the mod might get annoyed, but as an example I've posted screenshots of things I never ended up releasing countless times. Sometimes I've made video of them too.

I mean it does say "Unreleased" in the video even.

I'm a firm believer in whats good for the goose is good for the gander. You are right, playing around in your OWN sandbox is great. have fun building sandcastles, but when you post a video of how you miraculously figured out how to make sand defy gravity and have a floating sand castle plastered on the web,and refuse to share some incite, surely you won't expect people to okay with it.

Imagine if OoPpEe and Seven had created all of those bad assed DarkPlaces updates/modifications, and only posted video's or images and provided zero downloads for the community.

That's not the point, the modders here are great guys with awesome abilities. I think this video above is only a fake to make it look like it's played on PSP...

Well that would explain the lack of download and releasing, which firmly allows me reitirate the lameness involved.

What is that supposed to achieve? I mean i see no sense in "cheating" or faking such stuff.

The PSP community has a significantly lower average age than just about any online community you can imagine except for something like the Nintendo DS.

15-19 year-olds are the upper age bracket, you have 8 and 9 year olds and 13 year olds believing just about any YouTube video they see. And then they tell 130 of their friends "Quake 2 runs on the PSP!!".

And they believe what they see because ... well ... they haven't ever played Quake 2 but the logo looks right and if they Google for it, the guns look right.

And then some of the more skeptical ones post comments on YouTube like "Hey, that isn't Quake 2 ..."

So I think you've got the middle school / high school "mess with people's heads for fun" thing going on. Of course, you won't release anything, the whole point was to see how many people would watch your YouTube video to begin with.

Well, want to see a funny one? Here is "Quake III for the PSP" ...

Watch this one and LOL ... it is just a console background for Q3 and some converted models that have been floating around forever.

Some of the PSP guys have some really good goals and some of the ones that mod Quake want to mold it in a manner similar to their favorite games:

Nazi Zombies: Portable Windows, Linux, PSP game - Mod DB

Left 4 Quake Windows, PSP game - Mod DB

And I think inactive now ...

Solitude: PSP indie project preview! news - Mod DB

There are probably 10-15 other types of that stuff going on.

What's funny ... Google "ProQuake psp" with the quotes around it ... you'll have pages and pages of search results ...

Most of these guys really like modding and want to map and model and make 2D graphics to make some semblance of their favorite and or to just make cool stuff for the PSP. And they are more lively and determined in their efforts than what you generally see in most communities these days ...

Also another cool feature of the PSP communities is that they know how to virally communicate, communicate via YouTube and organize around live chat and so forth.

Mindzy, you remember the "older days" when eSx did that stuff all the time. You couldn't play a game of Quake without running into eSx. And there was a time you couldn't play a game of Quake without running into me, you, Yellow #5 or Hydro or several other hardcores back when this game had atrophied into bad place and we were the glue. And you see that vitality in the PSP crowd ...
