  • Darkplaces RT Lighting

    Hi all,

Hope someone can shed some light (!) on issues on FPS issues I am having when turning on RT lighting on DP. I am getting about 120fps hit when turning on - down to 30 ish from 150!

I read that this can be resolved by using romi rt light's and found a file romirtlights.pk3 and have popped it in the ID1 folder. Unfortunately it seems to make no difference - I get the same fps hit irresepective of if it's there or not.

    Appreciate if someone can advise.

Respect to the developers of this and bits I am using - fantastic work!

Well, do you see shadows and stuff? Then RT L works. You could try incub0's RT files: Click. Maybe this makes the difference. Please note that "normal" Quake and the Ad-Ons need separate RT Light files.

      Hi

darkplaces can start slowing down if theres alot of light and you have rt lights enabled...it starts to slow down.

you could always turn off some settings like

rt dlights set to off can add fps.

you could even disable rt world shadows if the maps to slow.

then use timedemo demo1 to test the new settings performance.

      regards

No surprise, real time lighting is several orders of magnitudes slower than lightmaps. Getting a serious fps hit is to be expected.

Make sure you use RTlights package. Using shadowmaps over stencil shadow volumes can make things slower or faster depending on how 'modern' your GPU is. With shadowmaps though, you can set stuff like resolution and filtering, with the shadow volumes you won't get much further than 'cull this, cull that'.

Also if you get capped at 30 that might mean vsync is capping it off, either disable it, or enable tripple buffering in your gpu drivers.
