  • Darkplaces not working correctly with Scourge Of Armagon

Hello All, Just to let you know I have rediscovered Quake in my fifties so please be gentle! I did have a retro rig (P4 2.8, 9600GT running Win Me) with all my Quake game and mission packs but on searching came across Darkplaces and getting the game to run on Win 7. A lot of installing later I have got to the stage of playing but my query is about getting Scourge to run the same as Quake and Dissolution. In Scourge, mouselook and the HUD are not working yet it does in vanilla Quake and Dissolution (and looks great). Also, a question, I can't figure where Darkplaces gets it configuration from, that is the vanilla installations read from cfg's for settings but as for Darkplaces? Anyone that can put me in the right direction for any other improvements for Darkplaces, I am all ears. This site is a mecca for Quake lovers and I am so glad I have found it, thanks for being patient with me!

Type +mlook or freelook 1 in the console to get mouse look working.

Try adding -hipnotic to the DarkPlaces command on startup to get the HUD right. There may be a way to do in with the console, but if there is I don't know what it is.

Also consider: The Quake Injector: Quake Injector < Projects < haukerehfeld.de

Newer DarkPlaces apparently saves configs to a different location than in the past and am on a Mac and use the 4/2011 stable and don't claim to have any idea where is location is on Windows.

/Not the best answer, but someone else will likely post with a better one.

Thanks for the reply Baker. I have already tried the +mlook direction as it is already working with the other two hence my puzzlement. Already got a bat to start the games as well, so am still stumped. Will keep plodding on until I get a solution!

          More bizarre things... I downloaded Sevens New fire modded files and here is my bat start up line;

          "darkplaces.exe" -hipnotic -game Newfire

As from my first post with just -hipnotic I have no mouse look nor HUD yet when I add -game Newfire I get mouselook back AND the HUD BUT....... now I am missing parts of the level, for instance at start up in Scourge you stand opposite a door which you need to open via the button on the floor, well the door is not there! Ventured further and there are more pieces of the scenery and structure missing, mostly doors so at the first level I can go straight through the gold key door as it is missing!

Going back to the start up line of; "darkplaces.exe" -hipnotic goes back to me not having mouse look or a HUD so I am so very puzzled. Normal Quake and Dissolution work as normal so the problem lies with Scourge and still the hunt for a solution goes on.....

            Hello Ducatisto,

The "New Fire only" mod is only for ID1, not Hipnotic.
That is why you have weird things going on...
If you want to have the "new fire" in Hipnotic, you must use the:
"small mod compilation" for Hipnotic (you can enable/disable everything to your liking)

            Regarding the mlook:
DarkPlaces has "mouse look" enabled by default.
You should delete your config.cfg and any autoexec.cfg you have in your Hipnotic folder and restart with:
            darkplaces.exe -hipnotic

If you use Win7 64-bit and the 64-bit DP build, DarkPlaces will search for your configs here:
            My Documents/My Games/Darkplaces

Also delete any "progs.dat" you may find in your "hipnotic" folder.
            There must not be any.

            Best wishes,
            Seven

Thank you Seven for your reply. Yes I was aware of your mod for ID only but I was grasping at straws and was amazed to see the HUD and mouse look work. I do have the 64 bit version installed but there was no Darkplaces folder within My Games and any cfg file. Followed the rest of your suggestions and still no mouse look nor HUD. FYI. I did create a Darkplaces folder within My Games with an already created cfg for Scourge but made no difference, will look out for more in the mean time. Many thanks for your assistance and great work.

Which DP build do you use ?
If it is an autobuild, please try the "stable" one instead.

If you say the "new Fire" mod gave back your HUD and mlook, why dont you use the "small mod compilation" for hipnotic ?
It will most probably give back these 2 things as well, if the "new fire" did.

Do you use a "csprogs.dat" in your hipnotic folder ?
Do you use any replacement content (.pk3 / .pak) ?
If yes, temorary delete them please.

Your "hipnotic" folder is on the same level as your "ID1" folder ?

Is the Hipnotic addon a CD version, or a download from the internet ?

Please type into console (with hipnotic running):
                viewsize 100
See if that brings back your HUD.

Firstly, viewsize 100 worked and my HUD is back, many thanks. As for the folder contents they were originally from CD and stripped as the rest to leave just PAKs. MP2 as I said worked flawlessly and until using DP was using RMQEngine and with that all was well. I have swapped previous custom files with your "small mod compilation" for hipnotic but still, no mouselook I am more than aware of file structure so have always been cautious in getting installations correct hence me getting greyer every day whilst trying to figure as to why my mouselook is not working in MP1.

Mouse look does not even work with the 3rd button (as default) (or backslash) on the mouse either.

Still have not found where cfgs for DP are stored as configs are remembered by DP and when originally set up with vanilla Quake it was good for both MP1 and 2. So the hunt goes on.

Are you using Win7? Configs are in "<SYSTEMDISK>:\Users\<USERNAME>\Saved Games\darkplaces\" folder, where id1, hipnotic and roque subfolders are with configs stored in.
Or just try to find it yourself (better do with totalcommander).

Thanks FC, at least I now know where the configs are. But still no mouselook working in MP1, the hunt still goes on........

did you try deleting all the config files so darkplaces makes new ones?

perhaps something went wrong somewhere in the configs.
deleting the config files manually and letting darkplaces create new ones on start-up might help
                        .
are you curious about what all there is out there in terms of HD content for quake?
                        > then make sure to check out my 'definitive' HD replacement content thread! <
everything that is out there for quake and both mission-packs, compiled into one massive thread

splitterface, you sir are a hero! That was indeed the solution to missing mouselook. Well, in future I know where to look as that Saved Games folder was not showing in any of the 'usual' places.

Thanks to all that helped..... on to enjoy the game...
