  • Hey! 10 years ago I stopped playing, got myself a family, now i want to play again!!

I downloaded a shareware version and tried playing. But I didn't know which to launch: GLJOE, WINQUAKE or whatever!!! Then I tried adding a few Bots to have a little DM... couldn't do it!!! Any suggestions (btw I'm not a programmer in anything.

You might consider downloading one of the more modern clients such as Proquake, Qrack, DirectQ or even Dark places to enhance your playing experience. There are links to these Quake engines all over this site and the authors all give their work for free to support the ongoing development of Quake. Many of them have additional features and offer more stability than the original Quake 1 engine.

I'm no expert, but you may well find that the shareware version you are using will not allow you to play the full range of levels such as the DM maps you mentioned. I've not tested this so it is just supposition on my part.

With the money you save with the free up to date client you might find upgrading to the full version of quake might solve some of these problems. I wouldn't be suprised if it's probably just a few dollars on Ebay or similar. There's even a "Buy Quake" link to help you on the left of this page

    Hope this helps you out
