    Or~ use a updated modern Quake Client, that has the client-side NAT fix.

              So, yesterday I spent about 30 minutes troubleshooting with IPTABLES and Wireshark.. this post has saved me.

              Kind of strange but it seems that the initial ping that the server gives is not responded to (in ICMP) - even though the UDP stream continues (but only for like 12 packets where my machine no longer communicates out (but doesn't kill the connection). So maybe this in game ping completes what the server expected?

              THANK YOU.

              And yes, I shall upgrade client now.
