  • Issue with cfg.cfg and autoexec.cfg

Okay, its been so long since I played quake I forgot anything and am wondering if anyone still plays this or online anymore.

I use quake injector to play SP maps and the only issue I have is everytime I start a new pak, or series of maps it takes all the configs I used for the previous maps and throws them all out the window. Im using darkplaces.

Oh also with over 900 SP maps my save spot is gonna get used up pretty quick cuz I play maps, wait for my dad to catch up and see if we can find all the secrets, so I sometimes need to says several maps and move on. Thanks. Rock on q1 lives forever

    try this instead.....

in console , save mysavegamename, and then next time in console
load mysavegamename to continue where you left off... you shouldn't need the injector now days I wouldn't think..

          exec configname.cfg
,and nothing is wrong with it. It just seems mundane for me,im used to...

map mapname , in console, loading the map I want.
or if im playing SP (very rare)

load mapname. Injector does work I can do myself afaik, its a map loading front end.

Im not familiar with how the injector works, but is it possible that some of those maps are in different game folders? If so, look in those folders for config.cfg or autoexec.cfg and delete them. Or dont use the injector and just load the map from console.

Most engines have their own config file...

So I dug through my folders and this is what I can tell you

for darkplaces, it uses config.cfg inside ID1 folder (I have a seperate Darkplaces installation, with only pak0/pak1 + darkplaces!and its never had any other engine in it. config.cfg has r_glsl riff raff so that tells me this is correct)

Qrack has its own config inside the Qrack folder, using config.cfg (right, rook?)

ProQuake uses config.cfg inside ID1 folder!

DirectQ uses directq.cfg inside ID1 folder!

I think all of that is 100% correct..

Edit them manually / save them through notepad , and make sure you select "All File Types" and your saved file ends up being config.cfg, or direct.cfg, and not config.cfg.txt or directq.cfg.txt , this is easily missed! if it does happen, just try again, its easier than detailing how to show all file extensions in folders so u can lob off the extra extension...

Let us know if you find another rock in your path

One trick is to copy the contents from config.cfg to autoexec.cfg (you can open them with notepad). They go in ...\Quake\ID1. As the name implies, autoexec.cfg gets automatically executed when you start Quake... so if you copy your config.cfg over whatever changed will forever be overridden by your settings in autoexec.cfg. It would be a pain in the ass if you ever wanted to change anything, though.

So, are you anywhere near where you need to be? Short of the guitar tab, any other observations from other peoples reply's?
