  • MP 1 issues

    First, DarkPlaces is having problems finding a number of models for Quake 1 MP1, replacing them with colorful diamonds instead.


    Second, it crashes when I try to access map hip1m5 [via the secret exit on map hip1m2. or the console].

    One of the attached screenshots shows the sprite issue, the other shows the console after I try to access map hip1m5.

    What is going on here?

    Is it possible you don't have "registered" Quake?

    I know pak0.pak is shareware, and you'd need a pak1.pak to have a complete game. In your quake>id1 folder. As a test I renamed my pak1.pak and got your exact problem In your first screenshot, the rainbow colored diamonds.

    As far as your second problem, I have no clue. hip1m5 loaded up just fine for me...

    I'm sure someone with way more Quake knowledge will chirp in with the answers soon enough.

      I do in fact have registered Quake 1 (via steam; same for the mission packs), and therefore a pak0 and pak1.pak in my quake/id1/ folder.

        1st pic is errors related to seven's small mod compilation.
        those are models from small mod compilation which are missing, dp shows rainbow blobs if a mdl is missing

        both pics show that same prob. most likely the blobs in pic1 are the shell-casings, and the missing mdl errors in pic2 confirm that. "progs/casing.mdl not found" is shotgun shell casing model, and you see those rainbow blobs cuz that model is missing

        so check if you do have SMC pk3 present in the hipnotic folder.
        if you do have hypnotic smc in hypnotic folder, make sure its the correct smc, and if it is unpack a new copy of the smc pk3

            hmm... are you perhaps using ent files?
            if so, try deleting any ent file you might have for hip1m5, see if that fixes it


            now i think of it sounds like it could be an ent file problem.

              You've omitted important piece of info, that you are using my SMC addons and as usual, I am the source of evil here
              there was a typo in hip1m5.ent file. Yes, I've just tried to load all id1 and hipnotic levels – no more issues found.

              Fixed one: DP_SMC_hipnotic_v4.15_Entities.pk3
              Quake HD: Embrace the decline and have some guilty pleasure with it, or join a club for monocled gentlemen at quaddicted and play Quake the way it's meant to be played.

                you should never make it so that people cannot use normal stuff and have to use files which are specially adapted to work with your mod.

                people should just be able to use the ent files on these forums.
                its a bad thing to break compatibility with anything on these forums thats already made

                  It was a typo in modified version, addon reads both old and new ent files just fine, there is no broken compatibility here.
                  Now, in my addon you have all stuff in a single pack: windows lightbeams, various effects, rain, etc. divided into groups selectable via autoexec.cfg � user friendliness.
                  You have even adjustable rain density, so you can adjust it via autoexec.cfg and don't have to worry about particles count, when you are making rain ent entries.
                  This rain density thing is a feature you've expressed a wish to be made yourself, I've wasted time to figure it out, only for it to be ignored...

                    ah nvm then, i thought you meant people needed to use special ent fies and couldnt use normal ones

                    also, could you perhaps upload your modified smc as stand-alone, without the rest of you 'hd pack'

                    so i can check it and see what i think of it

                    .

                    EDIT: ah nvm, ill just download the entire hd pack, so i can look into it and see if you mebbe have
                    something i like in the pack that i dun have yet or that i like more then what i have.

                      Small chance, that there is anything you have not seen yet, other than SMC addon
                      You could just download only an update. It has SMC addons, except for multimonster pack.

                      Yes, multimonster feature does break compatibility with SMC version of it.
                      I had a reason – it is not possible to break it, by adding new model to the game folder, while having it enabled now.
                      It can also use up to 5 different models at once, allows to choose a model instead of having it randomised and is more straightforward to expand by an user.
                      Monsters packs from qhd are 600MB combined, so I won't be uploading them separately.

                      Your Spawn and Ogre packs for MP2 work with it just fine.
                      In case of SMC monster pack, or your other packs, only one skin for each model will be used, but it won't glitch otherwise, unless you select in autoexec.cfg a model number, that is not present in the pack. It simply use only one skin for each model and you have to use the same model two times, to have two skins for the same model. It uses a bit more memory, but allows you to use any combination of skins and models you want, without creating conflicts, or making a custom code to handle them.

                        hmm i like that , that you implented to instead use 5different models instead of 2 models with 2 skins each. allows for for example using ruohis, obi-wans and ID1 scrag models all 3 at same time. its a good feature. i really like taht. better then 2 models with 2 each skins i think.

                        ill most definitely take a look into your modification

                        what are other changes you made to the smc?

                        also, your mod is based on the last 4.15 version of smc?
                        cuz that version has a couple features which i really like and wouldnt wanna miss, and older versions dont have those features

                            Almost all well and good actually - now I'm missing the models for one of the new enemies - the zombie who fires that new lasergun at you. And he wasn't one of the models I was missing to begin with! (see attached screenshot for one location in hip1m1 where you'll find him.)

                              sounds like a wrong multi-model setting, which tries to use a model which you do not have.

                              can you start hipnotic and start that map, open your console and make a screenshot?

                              it should say something along the line of 'enforcer#.mdl not found' in console
