  • Crappy fps in some areas

Hi I am using the latest dp build, with the latest pretty water, rtromi lights, quake reforged, and rygels high res texture pack. In some areas I am hitting as low as 25 fps. where as most of the time I am above 350 fps. I would'nt mind as much if it stayed above 50 fps. Do I need to reinstall and test with one mod at a time or is there a recommended commandline I could use increase my fps some. I think it may be the high res texture pack because it seems to happen in large rooms and I can tone everthing down with no change. Including going from 1080p to 640x480.

your bad performance is caused by using pretty water in combination with rtlights

as it is stated in the DP water thread, using pretty water in combination with RTlights is really heavy on performance

    .

rtlights is the most heavy of all. try turning it off and watch how your performance comes back. darkplaces with such features is insanely heavy on performance. i have a core i7 quadcore 3.2GHZ, 12gb ram and a MSI geforce 580 twin frozr II oc-edition and even i get bad performance in some parts.

such stuff like rtlights in darkplaces is fancy but its incredible heavy on performance
    .
are you curious about what all there is out there in terms of HD content for quake?
    > then make sure to check out my 'definitive' HD replacement content thread! <
everything that is out there for quake and both mission-packs, compiled into one massive thread

It wasn't happening in a place with water. It was just a large room e4m4 to be exact. So does dp render an entire level at once and anything that is behind a wall or floor processed enen though it cannot be seen.
p.s. my rig 3770 @ (4.6), 7970 @ clock (1.1) mem (6.5), 16 gb 2133 cl 9 10 11 28 just built it this is my first high end build. My last build was sad with dp to say the least playable but sad. I guess I am just expecting alot! ;-)

Could have to do with bad occlusion culling.
Also could be texture fetching if you have the ridiculously large sized texture pack. Try enabling texture compression in the options if you haven't already.

weird, I can't even run Darkplaces on my 7970 o_O

or Qrack for the matter, every GL program I've tried running has crashed. I'm gonna try Google Earth OGL and see if I crash there too

ps ; that crashed too. OH THE JOYS OF NEW HARDWARE. I even snagged Epsilon and tried that with no luck.I got d3d mode to work half-assed....

about performance in darkplaces, I noted that it does really really well with dual gpu solutions. I had 5770's in crossfire til upgrading to a 7970, and they atleast ran DP/Qrack.

Did you do anything special to get DP running? I'm using Catalsty 13.3 beta Win7 64bit

            I have HD5850 W7 64bit.
Maybe it's just a coincidence, but since they introduced W8 support, drivers were half broken to me. I've tried few releases before I've stopped bothering with new ones...
            - Flash was giving 100% usage on one of the cores in firefox and was crashing not multithreaded applications that were using it.
            - I couldn't turn off cleartype, so all text was permanently blurred.
            - I was randomly getting weird fullscreen artefacts.
            - I had serious performance and stability issues in many games.

I currently use 12.8 version, the last one before W8 support. If you are desperate - try it, works for me, maybe it'll work for you too.
