  • Q1 Arena Mod Problems

Hi, I have a problem: When I recompile the Q1 arena's source code, it doesn't give me any errors with the compiler, but when I replace the previous progs.dat file with the newly recompiled one, it gives me an error in console.

The first time, it was "Must have registered version of quake to run mods" Well that's odd since the other progs.dat file didn't ask me to do that. I'm pretty sure the source code is of the same version as the one I'm using.

Is there something I'm missing? Did I need to comment something out in the source code? Or could it be an error with compiling, and it just didn't tell me?

If you want, here's the source I'm using: src - Download - 4shared

    Thanks,
    - Jastolze

Not sure what that file is, but I forgot to mention this is being played on my psp. What will that file do?

it comes with the full install of Quake. It's usually in the pak0.pak in /gfx folder
        or hardcode cvar_set("registered","1"); in world.qc

And how would I go about doing that hardcode thing?

Either way, I got passed that error by copying the original pak0 and pak1 files and now it gives me: wrong version number of a_nail.md2 should be 29 (or something like that)

I checked that file, and it is in the MODELS folder that came with the original mod itself. So, not too sure why it keeps popping out errors left and right :/

thats an engine detail. if your engine supports md2, or that file is corrupt

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it supports md2. It's a GL Quake port, so I'd assume it would, since they also ported this exact same mod over to PSP. But, let's say it isn't an engine issue. What other issues could it be? I believe the devs of the mods released an older version of the source. I honestly think that I need to find something in the source to comment out, but I'm not sure what. :/

Oh, and what's the most up to date decompiler for quake? I'm pretty sure it won't decompile, but I'm open to all options.

                  glQuake never supported quake2 models.

if u are coding for psp. then stop

the psp controller sucks for quake.

code for the other 99% of quakers

(i had a huge reply but, this is the gist)

joysticks and thumb driven controllers were invented for 2D platformers.. for FSP... they are bad bad bad and just bad. there fuck you SONY/nintendo/microsoft/colecoVision!!!

uh what? joysticks and thumb controllers were invented for video games. The amount of dimensions is irrelevant.

Sit...Stay - bah! can't teach an old dog new tricks

For real though, there is no limitation to a PSP set-up you just have to get used to a new way of playing. I promise you I could play Quake on my PSP and suck just as bad as I do with a mouse.

Yeah, I like playing on a PSP vs pretty much any other device, i.e: PC, Pandora, Xperia Play. All because the analog stick is perfect on PSP but I can't seem to find a good handheld device that has a decent analog stick. (And no, I hate the vita, so I'm not going to get one, lol)

I suppose, yet ive had a computer since before they made consoles so i never went past the joystick days.

I had a couple of setups that make that look high tech lol.

Remember the trs-80 and it's high tech cassette drive? I actually wish I still had that thing. I also had an Atari 800xl. That was actually a pretty cool little system - play atari cartridges AND have a"PC" (all in one). Kinda wish I still had that too.

The first console I ever had was Sega Nomad. That thing was beast (especially for the time). You could plug controllers into the thing, hook it to your tv and/or play every current sega genesis game. Do I need to explain how many mortal kombat 3 battles I had on that thing at work? It didn't really fit in your pocket though. It was about the size of squishing 4 psp PHATS together.

If you using PSP (Kurok??) just remove the registered check from the engine and compile it new...
