  • Missing Quad Damage in DoE

I'm reporting that there is a bug in DoE/Mission pack 2 that in one of the secrets in level towers of wrath in ep. 1: hell's fortress is missing a quad damage power up

I do not know any of you had noticed this, but I was hoping there are solutions in fixing this bug.

This bug is confirmed in the latest 2013 darkplaces engine build.

Contact me if you have information of this or you have heard of this bug.

The rest of mission pack 2 is working fine, so this is one bug.

You could probably inject it with an .ent. Seven has written many tutorials on how to pinpoint a vector location within a map and then use that info to place things at that location via an .ent file.

Well this bug is only in any of the 2013 builds, but the previous bulids actually do not have the problem. However do you know the where I could find it so I could try it out?

ignore the statement, since darkplaces is still in progress on fixing. Best to use previous engines that works for you.

Hmmm, I read in many threads about *new* issues with 2013 DP builds.
There seems to be something wrong with it.

But at least we can play Tronyns maps with it

            Hello Frost R17 & Henry,

One of the reason why so many *new* issues with 2013 DP builds raises are the sv_gameplayfix_ cvars, which are disabled since then.
For many years, they have been enabled by default and we became "used" to them...
So now, you will encounter issues like the ones you mentioned when using replacement contents and sometimes even without.
Be sure to enable the specific gameplayfix you need, or enable all of them as it was in ealier builds, to fix your issue.

            Kind regards,
            Seven

That's what said about using the earlier builds, but you do know more than we do and that's okay. I learned the hard way, however I once used a 2009 build and it does not have issues in single player.

                Hello Frost R17,

Reading about your problems, that you have due to hardware limitations, and reading that you like the original Quake visual:
Why do you want to use the Darkplaces engine ?
There are better engines for you to use.
DirectQ is coming to my mind for example.
It solves both issues that you have.
I do not know if DirectQ is running the mission packs, but you should at least try this engine.
I think you will like it.

Search this forum for specific "original"-look settings in DirectQ.
They have been mentioned several times already.

                Good luck,
                Seven

                  To Seven

I tried DirectQ, but it does not look like I can install it easily. However, darkplaces is easy to use to install quake. It's just the issue with the plasma gun bug and the elevator in Tomb of the overlord. Darkplaces actually runs fine. When I installed LambentHammerburst's plasma gun fix, the elevator won't work but no issues in ep. 2 and in Quake and mission pack 1.

Sorry if my issues have confused you and the fix you promised me, I can wait like I said before. I do not want to rush you because you are a busy person and I respect that.

Again, I'm really sorry for the confusion.

                  warm regards,
                  Frost R17

DirectQ is one of the easiest engines to "install".
It is only 1 executable file.
Darkplaces is (compared to DirectQ) a nightmare to "install" with all its .dlls and nasty stuff...

But it seems that you made your decision already

Uh, I have never installed DP. It runs portable, just drop it somewhere and dump an ID1 folder in it. Not sure what you mean about DP "install".

The meaning of brackets " " is exactly what you justed described.
People tend to use this word in combination with engines, mods, replacement content and so on.
They mix up installation routines with drag/drop or copy/paste files.
                          But you surely know this.

Yeah, but you were saying that DP is far more complicated to install with it's DLL's and what-not, but you don't actually have to do anything with those DLL's. You just leave them alone and all is good.

I'm just trying to understand how doing nothing is more complicated than doing something.

                              Hehe,
                              Mindz did understand.

                              Frost R17 used the words:
I tried DirectQ, but it does not look like I can install it easily.
So, what was my answer then ?
Jump back to last page and you will see...
There is nothing to read between these lines.
Just a question to Frost R17 why it is easier to "install" 25+ files compared to 1 single file.
I think now you should understand
