  • Darkplaces Question

I know this isn't quake one talk, but I just found out Darkplaces can run Nexuiz!
The question I have is: Like Quake 2, does it need to be compiled to run on different OS's? Or can it run just 'as is'? Thanks!

(P.S: I'm trying to run this on the Pandora's Darkplaces port, which is a linux based OS)

That's because Nexuiz is DarkPlaces powered to begin with.

There's no difference in the engine for that game.

Alright, I'm having an issue getting it to work on my Android's DP port. It tells me I'm missing content/data and quits.

I have the original pak files, yet it still gives me this error.

Could someone show me what the directories should look like? Thanks!

        Hello jastolze,

This is maybe a silly question, but did you download the Nexuiz game files, as you wrote it is missing content/data.
You can get version 2.5.2 from here
It is a 1 GB file.

Once you extracted the 1 GB file, it looks like this:

Double click the Nexuiz.exe to play.
I do not know if you can simply extract a newer Darkplaces build and can run Nexuiz.
LordHavoc can surely tell if newer DarkPlaces builds support Nexuiz out of the box, or if you have to edit some things.

        Best of luck,
        Seven

I'm on android, so I can't run the exe on an android.
I have the 2 files inside the data folder (almost 1GB in size)
This version of DP works with Xonotic and Nexuiz. (Or at least that's what I was told)

The port of Darkplaces is called Qi4a, and it's free. So if someone wants to give it a go and tell me how things turn out that would be cool.

Still having this error. I tried running the exe on windows and got the exact same problem. Maybe a directory issue?

add a -nexuiz argument so it knows to use the correct directory and other settings.
I believe you can also rename the exe and it'll figure out what its meant to default to (the only difference between the two is the embedded icon in windows builds).
both of these are problematic on android.
using id1/ instead of data/ should mostly work, but I believe the argument does more than just game directories (like protocol names so it can find (only) nexuiz servers in the server browser). There are some other non-breaking compat issues if you don't tell the engine that its running nexuiz or xonotic, including prediction, particle effects, downloads, hud clutter, palettes, and chat sounds - all the things that got hacked into the engine for things that differ from quake.

Thank you, sir. I got it to work. My problem now is, I'm trying to change the fraglimit and timelimit to 0.

I do so in the config file, anywhere I can see a fraglimit_override, and change it to zero.

After saving it and starting the game, then a match, it defaults back to 5 for TL and 10 for FL.

I can't find where it's reading that limit from.

I changed the config file in the data folder, and in that data.pk3 file, but after I go back to change it again, it says 5 Timelimit and 10 fraglimit, which is irritating.

Oh, I should mention that I do not have a keyboard on the device I'm playing from (Nvidia Shield) so I cannot enter console commands in game.

I can however, bind keys to activate commands, like bind L trigger to god.

My question is: What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

Still having issues. Are Nexuiz's commands just THAT different? Or am I doing something wrong here?

Does anyone have any idea on how to change the fraglimit and timelimit permanently? Oh, and my bad about the triple post. :/

If you want to change the fraglimit to 100 and timelimit to 30 for example, and you are playing single player locally, just type fraglimit 100 and timelimit 30 in the console seperately.

If you are a server / dedicated, those have to go into the config file, or if you are at the command prompt of the server, you can type them in directly as above.

I've tried doing this in the config file. After I load a map, it resets to the defaults.

I tried changing the defaults.cfg to 0 both on FL and TL. Also, the port I'm using doesn't have console commands working, unless there's a keyboard attached to the device (which there isn't).

I do however, have a commandline option. Can I change it from that? Thanks!

                            Hello jastolze,

fraglimit is not a cvar which is saved into config.cfg

Please try one of these options:
                            1.) Use autoexec.cfg
Create a text file and name it "autoexec.cfg" besides your config.cfg file.
Add this line into it (example):
                            "fraglimit" "7"

2.) Use shortcut commands (aka commandline options)
Add this to your executable (example):
                            darkplaces.exe -nexuiz +fraglimit 7

Both work fine with Quake, so it should also work with Nexuiz.

                            Best of luck,
                            Seven

I did both of these things, but after loading a map (instant action) it still had the timelimit in the corner.

                              My Commandline is this: -Nexuiz +fraglimit 0 +timelimit 0

the Darkplaces.arm thing isn't needed, as when I include it, it throws backs an error saying it can't find the data.

It's not a big deal, Seven. Thanks for trying to help.
