OK...I disagree! Demo's are not always a good way to detect
bot like actions. A demo is played back by the engine YOU are
using and not the engine the 'cheater' was using. Embedded info
and coordinates that the other engine uses are not the same as your
engine.

Jackhole, you are speaking from the standpoint of someone who knows the nuts and bolts behind the engine, and you are right that what you see in a demo isn't the best method of bot detection.

HOWEVER, the accusations I am describing come from people who have no such knowledge beyond WHAT THEY SEE IN THE GAME IN THEIR OWN ENGINE. Normal players on a normal server unfortunately don't have the benefit of any other method of bot detection beyond what they see. So, their accusations are based solely on what they see in the game. And it's absolutely true that if they can see it in the game, they can demo it. The idea that you can't demo something that you can see is a myth, absolutely false.

The bot-callers will claim that they see evidence of cheating while they are playing against you or observing you in the game. Anything you see in your own engine can be demoed in your engine, assuming you are at least using an advanced enough engine to record a demo at all.

funkify, allthough this is a nice post for newbs to gain knowledge of how to sucessfully & sneakily record a demo of an allegeged bot, it won't change the opinion of the noobs who call people like Toyo, Monster, (myself even o.O) bots. Actually its fun to play with them on the server when they make bot accusations, heheh.

just a quick fyi ,I've learned first-hand that cheating in cheat-free is not impossible,and I've seen more fishy shit in CA+ lately than I have the entire time of quaking on CA+ server's,while that isnt a long time,it sure isnt a short time either.

ProQuake cheat-free has never been completely secure. Chuck used to post pics of a screenshot he did in cheat-free with transparent walls using a video card trick.

DM3 also happens to be "all about the corners" and first sight on DM3 is everything, whereas first sight on a map like Q1EDGE or Sanity does not mean so much because Q1EDGE is larger and Sanity is wide-open.

I agree with you funkify. If some of the regulars of quake that claim to love it actually gave a shit for anyone other than themselves, they probably wouldn�t be throwing the cheat accusations around so loosely. It doesn�t hold any comedic value, and can only be justified by the persons lack of creativity in coming up with anything intriguing to say.
I can say one thing for most of the people on this board as well, there sure are plenty of �devil�s advocates� around. Lol� If you ever want to hear the negative sides to anything just post a message here and learn why you just wasted your time doing so. On that note, I�d like to thank Baker for all his positive work for the game and time he spends writing creative content for the board. Everyone else should take note.

i dont hate cheaters, if im fighting a cheater then i have good reason to lose!

havent been accused of cheating since MegaTF back in 98... at which point, it probably looked like i was... HPB sniper that never died and actually ran out of ammo due to a constant succession of clean headshots...
but if someone can accuse Monster of being a bot, i guess they can accuse me, because i do manage to, according to Monster, make him try during a 1on1 with me.
