  • Limited amount of maps.

First of all, I downloaded quake and the files needed to run it from this site.
(I downloaded the three things mentioned in this thread
    :http://www.quakeone.com/index.php?in...s&op=show&id=1 )

When attempting to connect to a server It would connect, but it would not allow me to start playing. The only server that would allow me connect to and play, was xctf.clan-rum.org. When trying to connect to the other servers, I kept getting an error message saying that it could not detect a certain file. I realized the the files were maps.

If I run Joequake-GL and view the maps, there are about 6 different ones. : s
Assuming that the lack of maps is my problem, is there a package I can download of all the standard quake maps, so I can play on the more popular servers?

Or...am I screwed unless I have a "Legitimate" version of quake?

    Any help would be great.
    Thanks.

Only the xCTF server is compatible with shareware Quake.

You can play Quake on any server (Rage, Shmack, GCHQ, etc) for free using SynQ (click here); the current download works but isn't that great as it is a work in progress.

The next version of SynQ will be greatly improved and should be coming out tonight.

Ah, thanks anyway, but I realized what I had done wrong. I'm a tad embarrassed about it. : P

I actually own a legitimate copy of Quake 1, but I thought I needed the version offered on this site in order to play online. I had a firewall blocking online access from quake when I first tried to use my copy, but I turned it off and all is well! Now I just need to work on my skills, which at the moment, are that of a quadriplegic. ; p

        Cool

No you don't need anything except Quake the way it came in the box to play online, but I heavily recommend using ProQuake, Qrack or DarkPlaces instead of GLQuake.
