  • FVF .pk3 for darkplaces

This is an FVF .pk3 file for darkplaces, it supports all the extra skins and effects, maps, sounds, and dance loops without the FVF console and statusbar, which I thought sucked anyway.

Great idea and nice work, FOQ

I'll put it in the downloads section

        GLPro doesnt support pk3...

get pakexplorer ( www.clanhdz.com has it in their downloads section) , stuff everything you need to play FVF with all the trimmings into a pak file..

It can't be done for glpro, or anything else except darkplaces. Quake reads pak's in sequence, like pak0, pak1, pak2. Darkplaces reads ALL pak files, with any name at all. You could name yor pak file something stupid like
dfgfdgfdhgfdshgf.pak3 and it will still be read.

Regular pak files are a terrible idea on a so many levels and lead to bad consequences ... the user forgetting what it is, conflict with some other mod, inability to override the contents (one example) with what is supposed to be unique contents outside the folder.

DarkPlaces implementation of pk3 has none of these problems because the pk3 can be named appropriately instead of being some mystery pak file in the id1 folder. Furthermore, DarkPlace prioritizes items outside of pak files, versus engines that prioritize things inside them.

Additionally, FVF uses a custom player model; players won't be able to connect to cheat-free servers with ProQuake and they won't know why; since DarkPlaces doesn't connect to them anyway, this is probably harmless for DarkPlaces for the most part with a .pk3 (It isn't too hard to imagine DarkPlaces ending up with some sort of implementation of a cheat-protection mode/mechanism in the future, so you can't quite fully assume this is harmless plus DarkPlaces can connect to Quakeworld servers and I imagine it would print to the console something about a non-standard player model that other players would see).

Pak files should only be made when it is a gamedir mod with in a pak0.pak in the gamedir.

Better to zip the contents in a zip file and unzip to the id1 folder than make a pak file.

okay i think i've managed it. I just opened up the FVF pak0.pak (inside the FVF209 folder) and deleted gfx.wad. this removed the stupid fvf hud, and didn't seem to affect gameplay in any other way and i was able to connect to an fvf server easily. im newbish with programming and shtuff like that, so although this is the meagerest of accomplishments, i feel quite self-satisfied :d
                  Download pak0.pak

i hated the stupid fvf hud so much that i used to play on every other server without the mod and then i'd shut down quake and boot it again with my fvf shortcut when i wanted to play fvf with the models

                  mebbe this'll help someone

Yeah, and don't copy it to your ID1 folder or your Quake goes tits up. You would need to replace the old pak0.pak in the fvf folder.
