What's up with GCHQ being down?

Just wondering.

dunno.. it crashed a few days ago.. and i guess slappy has not been able to start it back up again..

i'm kinda hoping ppl will use another server like euroquake or flanders dm as their new hangout.. as both of them offer much more variety in gameplay (better maprotation, more custom maps, matchmode, runes, Rocket Arena) but more importantly.. NO pitbull

You know, Jackhole setup all the DNS forwarding for gchq.quake1.net. That could be re-directed to flanders if GCHQ isn't coming back.

I would have to agree with Peg, full credit to HappySlappy's efforts but in my humble experience although the ping is fractionally higher [for me at least], the Flanders and Bigfoot servers offer much greater variety in selectable options and generally have a good 'friendly' atmosphere too which counts for a lot. While GCHQ is down it might be a good idea to at least forward the DNS record to a working server so we don't lose people along the way.

It is? Blimey I couldn't connect to it.
Having written a similar script to do the same thing I'm guessing that if the server isnt showing as up then it could be dropped off the list. However, I just ran my rather primitive script and it concured with you, it picked it up as running with 0 players on DM5.

Anyway, how could it possibly compare to the excellent Flanders servers :d

Thanks Baker. I would guess that quite a few of the northern european players do check it periodically as it was generally a low ping seerver and certainly if I notice any change I'll let you know. I would suggest that the Pol's RQuake and Bigfoot are probably the most frequented if that's any help.
