  • Project Guilt Trip (FPS/Fighting hybrid mod)

I have a mod in the works for Quake 1 that, for now, I am calling Project Guilt Trip. As the title of this thread would suggest, it is a mod that is going to be a crossing between revolutionary First Person Shooter gameplay, and Fighting-game gameplay (in the spirit of Super Smash Brothers and Soul Calibur), while maintaining high-fantasy elements (quasi-mideval style classes) and strong action emphasis.

I've got a big plan for all of this, and I've actually got it in the works (programming wise), and its all going to be unique stuff. Truth is... I'm looking for help. I think I can handle a lot of the programming of it, but a second (and third if I can get it) pair of eyes looking the code over and extra pairs of hands putting code and ideas into action would be vastly appreciated.

Also, I could use some help with mapping, server streamlining, and game balance from experienced players willing to try something damn new and be a part of something that will, without a doubt in my mind, grow into a massive undertaking.

I won't go into very specific details here on this thread, but please, express your interest here so we can get in touch ^^

    Thanks!

p.s. Oh, and by the way, this is all totally feasible stuff.

Sounds like a worthy project. Like Phenom said, there are more mappers at Func_Msgboard than here. This is more of a players forum.

And Inside3D is where the QuakeC guys hangout. http://www.inside3d.com

(But when it's playable or needs a tryout for feedback, of course you should let us know :d )

              Snags

Arrite people, I'm hitting some serious snags here:
No compiler seems to like windows Vista. Hell. *I* don't like windows vista. This shit is just getting rediculous. I can't compile worth a shit with Vista, too many damn errors to count that love nothing more than to shove their fist in my ass. I'm working on obtaining a new OS, but this project is on Hiatus until I can either figure it out for Vista, or just get that new OS... likely Linux... hrmmh...

You can't get the QuakeC to compile on Vista, correct (32-bit or 64-bit)?

You might consider posting a zip of the source and/or posting the QuakeC errors.

I've not tried to compile QuakeC on Vista, but if your experience is not something special about your setup then this is very interesting information.

The one thing that does not make sense to me though --- RocketGuy is a huge Vista fan and I'm pretty sure he's updated his RQuake mod (and therefore recompiled it) on Vista.

What compiler are you using, by the way? FrikQCC 2.5? FTEQCC? QCCX?

/I am assuming you are talking QuakeC and not engine code.

                    grrr bloody qc

Arritie maties... Me missed talk like a pirate day... yarr... So I be talkin like one now. Arrrrrr.

Ye see, maties, I be usin' that frika-c compiler, methinks... Yarr... Its Friksomething, that be fer' sure. Bless the lad for makin' it tae windows compat'b'l. Command Prompt be a pain, yarr.

Anyhow, I be gettin the file "Progsdat.h" and, while it be somethin' likely simple I be doin' wrong... Tae fact o' tae matter is, this be new waters fer' me... yarr... I be ashamed to admit it, too, but I be fixin tae right that.

Yeah... Im done talking likea pirate...

I took a VB class and have been studying for a while, collecting snippets of code and dissecting for form and function for months, experimenting and in general suffering a crash course in doom-ing... but if I can't compile, nothing will come of my efforts to make things for this community... well... my C programming efforts anyhow... I'll still be making utilities, either way.

I get the file progsdat.h, and it wont rename and work, I think, so... what exactly am I doing wrong here? Am I just being incompetent?

btw, I think I use 32 bit... could be 64 tho too, kinda new.
