  • Here are some new maps

    Hi.

I am an old school Quake 1 junkie and I have made 6 maps over the years. I think they are fun but most people tell me they are merciless. If anyone here is curious they can be had at http://sid80910.tripod.com .

If anyone remembers Jack Meacher's "SBE" I was one of the beta testers mentioned at the end of the level. I learned to map from Jack who gave me many pointers and helped me learn my way around Qoole's bugs.

I would appreciate any comments concerning my levels. "The Dim Dimension", "The Maze of Torture" and "My Own Prison" may also be played in Deathmatch mode. I'd like to see a Deathmatch in the Maze, buncha lost people running around like rats heh heh (the maze is HUGE). Dim Dimension would also be cool to play in DM.
The biggest and best level I ever made by far would be "My Own Prison". My nephew helped me make that one back in '01 and '02, his part is the lower jail-cell area where the zoms are imprisoned. I still have fun playing it.

I would also like to know if any of you have made your own maps and, if so, if I may play some of them!

One more thing, hello to anyone I used to camp the flag room with playing Team Fortress back in the day heh heh.

So I tried out these maps...

Gerpsnot let me be the first to say that I am glad you have taken an interest in Quake mapping, but unfortunately these maps are very elementary, with little detail and otherwise flat lighting. Although I played through all of them I was rather dissatisfied.

This does not mean you should stop Quake mapping! Quite the opposite. The only advice I can really give you right now is to just keep mapping with detail in mind. You will see that in time, your maps will become better and more fluent.

If you had posted these maps on any other site, such as func or whatever, you would have been more than likely bashed to hell.

So, just keep on mapping to your leisure.

Heh heh... yeah I understand. Oh well it was fun making them. Jack told me I should learn to use Worldcraft many times over the years but I never found the patience to learn the interface.
Thanks though for looking at the levels because even though they are not that special inasmuch as detail and lighting, I did invest much time making them and I appreciate your taking the time to play them

Yes I read somewhere that mazes are not generally popular with Quake players... but it was something I knew how to do. "The Maze of Torture" is one big maze, and "My Own Prison" has a small maze with 4 buttons in it one must find and press to open the exit and proceed with the level.
"Skeet" has nothing to do with mazes though, in fact it's pretty different than even your average Quake level.

ORL i think you are probably the best map maker currently active. i'd take his advice. and ORL, i'd really love to see you to work out the bugs from your unstable set of new maps; from the bit of them that i've seen, they look fucking awesome. i think all the coop mods need a constant stream of new maps to keep them active
