I have been playing a coop mod for Darkplaces (and I believe it ONLY works for Darkplaces) called kleshik coop.
It has all sorts of crazy cool features like extra monsters, alt fire, random monster replacement, new sounds/ambience, day and night cycle, new weapons, and support for the 2 retail expansion packs.

Instructions on how to run are also there.
You must download it and run the 'getkleshik' file in the update folder to get the latest version.
When it prompts be sure to accept the certificate temporarily or permanently or it wont allow you to download it.
