  • How do I increase FPS

I am running a pre Intel Mac dual 2.5 GHz with Nvidia GeForce Ultra 6800 video card that operates two 30 inch Apple Cinema Displays. When I check PQ_MAXFPS in the game it says 72.0. How can I increase to more FPS?

    Nice setup. =]
    Type this: "pq_maxfps 1000"
Without the quotes of course. You should be able to get as many fps as your computer is capable of dishing out. At least, up to 1000.

You need to turn off V_SYNC

There are various ways of this but you havent provided enough details...

      Google "Vsync YourVideoCardHere"

      like for example ...
      http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...Geforce+8500GT

Thats all the Vsync related issue's that have occured using my video card, you'll find the same type of results if you search properly.

        thanks

Thanks for your help. I made the changes, but I still have weird game play. My connection is cable 8mps down and 1.5 up. I always show a good ping of about 56, but the game play will change when certain players join the game. At time it plays greatI can shoot at other players and hit them and then when the game play gets bad, I cant hit anything. Not even the same players that I was hitting before. My ping still shows the same, but these certain players cant be hit. Before they join. I can see rockets come at me and sometimes can move, but once they start up, its like when they get close and we start to fight, the frames freeze and then Im dead. Cant even see the rockets or bullets come my way and if they use the lightning gun, it kills me with first zap! If I use it on then, I have to hit them over and over and sometimes I have them grappled and still cant kill them. I know at times it could be the rune they have, but sometimes I know its not. I just started playing Q1 again about 9 months ago and at first I know my play skills sucked, but now I am playing like I did years ago and feel there is something wrong. I am sure some of these guys are just so damn good, I will always have a hard time, but its just strange how the game play changes. Sometimes I feel like my game plays is the opposite and I kill everyone so easy, its like all my movements one step ahead of others. A few things I have considered, but not sure if theres a solution or if this is possible:
        1. The players that cause me to lag out in fights have bindings set that helps them quickly move faster than my video card can process which results in freeze frames on my systems.

        2. Players that make my game play change are closer to the server and the packet info that was getting to me fine when game play is playing great is now getting to them faster than me once these certain people join in.

I know there are a few people I have played with for years that always state there are cheats and hacks available, but since I have experienced times when my play feels like I have auto aim and I can move quicker than others, I dont wont to suggest that thats whats going on. If it is, it would be nice to know so I wouldnt need to spend time tweaking my system and just play like I am.

        Thanks,
        Necro

        PSHey Catguess what?

sounds like background processes in my opinion.

It's a good rule of thumb the more FPS you utilize, the lower your ping will be,but at some point you'll find that your connect is unstable regaurdless of what your FPS is reporting on screen....

Make sure Vsync is turned off, both in videocard settings and Quake (Qrack is easiest to turn off in-game,on the fly) This will unleash your video cards potential, but also promote tearing in the game play.

          ProQuake - PQ_MAXFPS 500
          Qrack - CL_MAXFPS 500

If your ping is smooth and doesnt fluctuate badly, raise it another 100,and find your primo operating spot.

you'll notice it helps to adjust your sens according to how many frames per second that your using. It really depends on your uprate.

The first thing I look for when my games behave like that are other other program activities which could cause the interfearence.
It sounds stupid but it is often simple malware or addware using your CPU to gain access to informations that does this. It can also be your Windows Update if it is set to automatic updates. Or running Antivirus client?
Run a complete PC scan. At least you've eliminated that suspicion (You'll probably find more than you asked for anyway...).

If it is still there I'd check my hardware. Does my RAM and pipes work properly? How is my PC set up for gaming? Did I forget something?
Does my coolers work properly everywhere? Also on my graphics card? Are they full of dust etc.?

Before you look at the things your game can tell you I'd check if I have the latest versions of every driver needed. DirectX, graphics drivers etc.

Then you can listen to Mindf!3ldzX and Dreadful for the remaining issues. They probably know a lot you can use.

When I first tried Darkplaces, I found that shoot a rocket would dramatically lower the framerate, because of its lighting effects. Perhaps lower a few quality settings?

Also, you should try riding one of these players once you're sure you found one, in order to see if they're doing anything interesting. For Runequake, when you're dead, type observer to get to observer mode, then press 4 to ride a player. You may need to press 4 again until you get to the player you want.
