  • Vanilla deathmatch

Hi, I'm and old quake player and have been recently getting the itch to play some plain old quake deathmatch. Does anyone even play it anymore with out mods? I'm having a bit of trouble finding any deathmatch servers. I live in the States, so any American servers would be awesome. Thank you.

All of the crmod servers can be put in to "normal" mode which is standard ffa deathmatch. You can set it to either a frag limit or time limit for map roation. I wish normal mode would be played more often instead of practice

I had setup a dedicated vanilla server awhile back but it didn't get to much attention. As of now, it seems that RuneQuake (quake.shmack.net) and Clan ArenaX (speaknow.quakeone.com rage.quakeone.com are the more popular servers, though don't hesitate to check out the Quakeone.com Server List for an awesome list of other servers.

I can't think of a running vanilla DM server off the top of my head though I'm sure there are some out there.

      Hope this helped!

        So true!
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Would be cool if there could be just a plain normal DM server set up that had Frikbots also. Custom waypoints from the waypoint depot could be used, so that would give a ton of map variety. Maybe some code could be implemented to put a set amount of frikbots in the level based on how many multiplayer starts there are in the map? Then if another played joined, the frikbots would be automatically removed so as not to interfere with normal human gameplay. You could also just allow players to add/remove bots, then that could get out of hand with morons coming in the server and adding 15 bots to a level such as dm4... Basically the bots would be there if someone was alone on the server.

Then again everyone seems to love practice mode for some reason, and noone ever plays anything other than dm6, dm3, and occasional dm4 for some reason. People claim to play just for fun, but it seems to me they are just afraid to go on a different map that they don't know and could possible get beaten on.

anyway, just an idea, doubtful that it could actually happen. would be nice too if someone could change up the frikbots aim a bit, just so that their boomstick/LG aim wasn't so inhuman on skill 2. Gets a bit annoying after awhile.

If you can stand the ping, one of Polarite's "Flanders" servers is a DM server. Also, Bigfoot's server (bigfoot.morphos-team.net) is usually run in pseudo vanilla deathmatch mode. The evening players are usually a pretty good bunch of guys on either server and I'm sure they would make you welcome.

            Kind regards
