Um ... with DOSBox? What brand of dialup modem do you have?
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

i don't use dialup, i got a Belkin Wireless Modem, but it does ask me for a phone number when i try to join a modem game.

i know what i said but that was more to do with the single player story mode. isnt there a way i could just cheat and use the Belkin to play multiplayer on DOS?

No, you certainly can get DOS multiplayer with DOSBox.

You will need to get a dialup modem.

WTF, man ... c'mon how are ya ever gonna be old skool without it?

you got Quake III, baker? i can get that to work online.
You can use WinQuake or even GLQuake to play online.

WTF does Quake 3 have to do with playing the "one true Quake"?

This is QuakeONE.com --- learn it, live it, love it. There is no game but Quake; Quake 1 is the only true Quake.

Quake 1 is only true Quake
                    forgot that, sorry.

but getting dial up modem is going out and buying isnt it? anyway dont need to tell me, i know it is.

i suppose i'll just forget about the multiplayer

There is nothing stopping you from download ProQuake or Qrack and playing multiplayer.

That'll be your choice and life is all about choices, but you always get to make your own.

i'm all old skool mate, but yeh, fuck it. DOS is great for the single player and all but its ancient technolgy and i was a fool to think it would work with anything past 2003.

heres what i'm going to do. i got episode 4 of Quake to complete then i'll kill the Shub-*****ruth. then i'll complete Armagon and Dissolution which will take me to the weekend give or take a couple of days.

then you can give me a link to what ever you think is best, Qrack or Dark Places and i'll give it a try. we all gotta accept defeat at some point

my problem is i dont wanna be one of many unverisal soilders, i've gotta be one out the crowd that stands up, thats why i always try my best in multiplayer games to get thrice as many kills as the guy in 2nd place.

but like i said, i'm willing to give up and try Dark Places or Qrack.

gimme the links now and i'll give'um a little look. but i wont be going online till next week like i said.

Let me tell ya, this isn't going to happen in Quake 1.

Half the Quake 1 players have been playing for 10 years and it will take a lot of humility to deal with their mad skillz.

I can easily "rape" any new Quake 1 player regardless of skill level and I am just upper average compared to some of elite players you'd face. Quake 1 has some brutally skilled players, some which you can't believe are "for real" but they are.
