  • GameSpy problem

I'm using an obviously very old version...I'm clueless where I even got it, I can't even find a release number on here. The best I can do is find "1999" under the "About" part under the "Help" tab.

For awhile this has been great, and it still works fine except for Quakeworld (which I'll mention later). It supports Half Life which is good because I play WON2's TFC a lot and it works for normal Quake as well. I recently added Quakeworld (using fuhquake) and it worked fine for a bit, then I began having to right click, click "Launch game" or it would just open fuhquake.exe as is, no loading a multiplayer game. Now, it's stopped doing that even and always goes to the normal console screen as if I opened fuhquake myself. To connect, I would have to type connect <ip> and for as many times as I have to switch servers (because of lack of players) this gets very tedious (especially when I have to wait 10 minutes before even getting into the game which is another pet peeve...I can't reasonably find classic TF levels online with working links. any help there as well?)

I'd love to play more Quake online...but I normally have to resort to playing TFC on HL with bots, and I'd like to play some TF for once. Is there another program I could use? Or is there a quick fix? I get no error message when the console loads up, only thing near an "error" is "no security module" and yet nothing has changed in my quake directory since this has happened; and I've reinstalled fuhquake just in case- nothing.

GameSpy 3D for all your "Lets get on with the KILLING" needs.

I used to use GameSpy3D exclusively.

Try this, open QuakeOne to Main page , look at top right corne of website, look to see "Server Status" , find a server with Quake players , hold mouse over the name of the server, make a mental note of the server address or write it down.

Open your quake client, hit tilde ~ button to drop console
    connect server.address.com

sometimes servers are on specific ports
    like
connect quake.shmack.net:26001 , will take you to RocketArena

The whole problem was having to type "Connect <server>" every time I opened the game through Gamespy. But I've found a workaround, I changed it so it only copies the IP address of the server when I right click and click "Copy to clipboard" and then load the game, it doesn't load of course, then I just type connect, space, and hit ctrl+v. It's not as easy of course, but it's much easier than rememberign more than a handful of servers at a time.

I also found a few FTP sites with crap loads of maps that I hadn't found in a long while (remember searching for TF stuff before TF2 came out? Easy wasn't it?) There should really be a place on sites like these that list links such as that.

GameSpy3D was customizable , you could have just double clicked the server and been on your way!

The point of my topic was that when I double clicked the game, it would load up the normal game, not the multiplayer. As if I only opened fuhquake itself. With my Gamespy, double clicking for a quakeworld game will not load the game.
