gosh darn it I need help... I just downloaded quake. And I'm using the Mac Pro Quake GL version. When I go to multiplayer I could only join a local server. How do you play online? could you play globally?

Metch is right. So for example:
Code:connect quake.shmack.net
If you've downloaded quake you may have the shareware version which I believe has some limitations on the number of maps it can play and so forth. However if you have the full version you should be fine and dandy.
RuneQuake and Speaknow are probably the most populated servers in the US and bigfoot.quake1.net and flanders.quake1.net are probably the most populated european servers. Bare in mind some of the servers run custom maps which you may have to download. Some new quake clients such and Qrack and Proquake 4 attempt to download them automatically in game for you to try and make custom maps more enjoyable, but if these clients won't run on your Mac then perhaps try the QuakeOne maps page or http://asgaard.morphos-team.net as a starting point
Hope this helps

Type in console:
connect quake.shmack.net
or
connect bigfoot.quake1.net
For instance ...Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.
So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...
