  • Instructions to playing online multiplayer of Quake I-II?

Hi, I know the original Quake uses a Telcom or something and for some time I have been wondering how the heck you even play online with other player or is there something I'm missing? Or does no one hardly play Quake anymore these days please help me!

Once you have the game installed, you can goto the MULTIPLAYER menu and select JOIN then then select TCP then type in the server address.
The server address can be found by looking at the page SERVER LIST look under the DNS column and each populated list has the server address in the title... for example

DNS Name Players Mod Map Time Queried
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
    quake.shmack.net:26000 Rune Quake [quake.shmack.net] 7/16 start 4:48 PM
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Player Name Color Score Total Score Total PlayTime Current FPM
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you access the quake console (usually by pressing the tilde key) and type the following

        Code:
        connect quake.shmack.net:26000
        what happens?

        Kind regards

Would be cool if a quake 1 engine had a built in game browser that you could sort out by server name, ping, and how many users were connected to it.

you're gonna be disapointed if your are thinking there is some myriad of North American NQ servers,we are a small bunch. We are currently shedding some players (kimp,MS,joker)...

Is it possible to play cooperative? Me and my buddy recent played through Doom 1/2/Final via ZDoom type sourceport.. and we were hoping to do Q1 and Q2. Is it possible on modern computers by any means?

Yes. go to quake.thisserversucks.com:26003 for RQ Coop.

the wifey plays COOP often, it's fun. So does Jared (turtlevan, aka TV)

Darkplaces has a server browser, but it only reports servers running Darkplaces. For standard Proquake servers, check out the server browser list at this site's homepage. I run a coop server myself at fvf.servequake.com. It's vastly different from Runequake CO-OP, there's a variety of classes to choose from, all with different strengths and weaknesses. The monsters are supercharged as well.

You may want to check out Proquake, as it's the most faithful to the original replacement engine out there, but with a ton of bug fixes and useful features. If you want updated graphics and external texture support, check out Qrack or Darkplaces.
