  • What do ppl use to hook up and play?

    Hi

I wonder if ppl use specific mIRC channels, or chat clients/messengers to hook up and play?

Also: do you use serverscanners that support Q1 ?

I played some RuneQ Coop @ flanders.servegame.org:26001 and must say it was quite fun but mostly those servers are empty.

BTW: at the server section on this site, flanders.servegame.org:26001 Flanders Coop(EU), should be added to the EU section.

I just sent this email to [email protected]:

    Dear Xfire team,

In the supported games-list on the website I noticed that Quake 1/ProQuake was supported, so I thought 'Great, let's try this scanner 'cause it actually supports Quake1'.

After finding a nickname that wasn't already taken for registration (=required ) I started Xfire and it started scanning for games and even though there's a 'skip' button, the scan process didn't stop. What happened to letting the user browse for his own games INSTANTLY? I still don't get why I can't type in 'C:\Quake', but I guess in modern gaming world this is too much to ask because those Call Of Duty Modern Warfare - teens don't even know where their games are installed. That is your assumption too, correct?
When I could finally choose 'manually detect' Quake, which only seem to enable the 'browse' button btw, I could finally browse for my quake folder.................. at least, that's what I thought. In the browse window, non of my .exe's were shown (glQrack.exe, glpro451.exe, etc.). Well, what do you know: Xfire can ONLY browse for 'steam.exe' and 'winquake.exe', isn't that fucking great.

    WHAT-THE-FUCK

The co-founder of Xfire, Dennis, 'Thresh', Fong was a major Quake player in the past. How is it possible that exactly THIS game is so horribly supported? And why on earth is steam REQUIRED to play Quake? And why do you assume that people still use 'winquake.exe' in 2011? How about simply give the user the option to select whatever freaking .exe he wants, like GameScanner does (bdamage.se) ??? The website stated that 'ProQuake' was supported but this is NOT to be configured in Xfire.

    My main question:

How on earth do I setup xfire for Quake1 when I DON'T (FFS) use Steam or Winquake.exe?

    Regards,

    MegalodonNL

      Hey megalodon ,

I use qview and qtracker for server browser , 1 thing you need to add the servers yourself...(Just send me message if you want my qviewlist.)

Flanders Coop is added to Standard Servers simply because servers under that section with 2 or more players on it will appear on the frontpage ,that way Coop fans can quickly see if someone is playing Coop and just join up.
      My servers for the gamers:
      bigfoot.servequake.com / damage.servequake.com

      port 26000 EuroQuake
      port 26001 EuroQuake Coop

      newyork.quakeone.com
      Offline ATM
      fvf.servequake.com
      flanders.servegame.org / flanders.servequake.com
      Offline ATM
      newdm.servequake.com

Alternatively, you can always call Turtlevan on his 3G cell anytime* night or day for coop server status.

        (* Taco Beeel trips notwithstanding)

        (Oh, j/k.)

        Enemies @ Coop!

Wouldnt just making a copy of the engine of choice's exe and having it named winquake.exe fix this? Fixed similar issues I've had with programs which required a certain exe name.

I tried that, but it still needs steam.exe and if you fake that, nothing will load.

            I'll try Qtracker.

Just use the server browser on the quakeone homepage. Rarely is a game organized, it just randomly happens when players jump on a server.
