  • DirectQ "fun-names" via console.....

    Qrack and possibly even ProQuake have this feature, and if I wouldn't be seeming too over-reacting, its a feature of paramount importance. It's bloody impossible to survive without being able to "Structure" funnames in Quake, via the Console. I've used Quake Online Name Maker 4 atleast 5-6 times lately, and its just a pain in the ass to make names without this basic name building feature.

    The newest release of DirectQ is a mega-bomb for myself and Magnus, two ATi/Radeon owners.

    DirectQ has that.

    Multiplayer->Setup->(Arrow down) Generate Name.

    You need to apply the changes to that they keep or you'll end up losing all the work you did to make the name.

      I said, from the console. If you aren't aware, in Qrack as a great example, you can open the console and build a name by holding combinations of alt, ctrl, and shift and recreate the same names, but at 20 times the speed, considering it operates no different than holding "shift" , or a combination of keys.... but , its really easier to make a name using this method.... and I would love to see the ability to make fun names in this way adapted into DirectQ.....

        While you are idle on rage waiting for a game, why not just make 100 names for yourself, and then save them to a .cfg, like exec gp.cfg which has name "GR4P3|Prod1gy" as the only line within....

        hmm can DirectQ save alias commands out to a file? If so you could alias myname1 "name GR4P3|Pr0d1gy";writealias "mynames.cfg", then in-game exec mynames.cfg and just type myname1 in console...
        etc.etc.

          Aliases are written to your directq.cfg automatically.

          I'll happily add the "fun names via console" feature; seems like a nice idea (and I can't see it breaking anything else).

            I know this was asked before, but whats the fix for not losing all the server alias' when I connect to a crmod server?

            For example, I used to be able to just type
            match
            observer
            etc...

            but now I have to do it by impulse half the time. Some times it works, others it doesnt.

              Can't remember exactly but I do recall Rook mentioning that it was a server-side thing rather than a client-side thing, as in the server isn't sending the aliases or something like that. But honestly I'm pretty fuzzy on it.

              OK, got a problem with the names. Two problems actually. First one is that it conflicts with clipboard copy/paste, which - IMO - is a more important feature, so certain Ctrl+key combos are no-go for DirectQ. Second one is that something in the command parser is stripping the special chars from console input; need to find out what, but if I don't then advance warning is due that it won't be happening.
