    Perhaps helpful ...

In autoexec.cfg in the appropriate gamedir...

    Rune Quake - Configuring

    scratch1

    1 equalize all lightstyles S1_EQUALIZE_LIGHTSTYLE

This will set all of the light sources to the normal lightstyle()
setting. (lights won't flicker, strobe, or pulsate)

2 turn off all ambient sounds S1_AMBIENT_SOUND_OFF
    ...

    1024 no default mode S1_NO_DEFAULT
    2048 default mode arena S1_ARENA_DEFAULT
    4096 default mode practice S1_PRACTICE_DEFAULT
    8192 default mode match S1_MATCH_DEFAULT

The server is setup to run as a runes server by default. This means
that if the mode of the server has changed along with any of its votable
options, the server will restore its original settings once all of the
players have gone. Each game mode has its own set of configurations
that can be further customized via the source code.

Use the bit settings to change the default mode of the server to either
arena, practice, or match. If you select the no default mode setting,
the server will not revert back to any particular mode nor will any of
    the votable options.

If you try and force multiple modes by adding more bits together, it
won't work as the lowest bit takes precedence.

Ok, i guess im having a problem in general. I have tried to run the server regular without any changes or anything. I added the "example.cfg" to the "autoexec.cfg" as the configuration file says. I get the server up but no runes no hook, nothing other then the host name has changed.

You didn't specify the -game <directory> or something like that more than likely. Do you have -game something and then in that something folder a progs.dat

Even if you have RuneQuake setup wrong, you'd notice it running and not standard Quake and more than the host name would have definitely be different.

My cmd line -game runequake -zone 1024 -dedicated 16 +map start
This is what i have done since i installed it fresh.
              C:\quake\runequake is the dir
Copied example cfg and put in autoexec as the configuration file says to do. Added cmd line then started server, connected to server and everything is just normal ffa quake. Only thing i see different is the host name that i changed like the configuration says to do "at least change host name". Which i did. So its reading the autoexec but something is missing or blocked from starting is my assumption. Wierd..

In your RuneQuake dir, is there a progs.dat?

The progs.dat is the compiled QuakeC ... in other words ... the mod.
